E55wannabe

Hello everyone,

I've been reading the forum for a bit now. I'm considering purchasing an E55 at some point. I currently drive a BMW 540i/6 and i've got a ton of miles on it. I'd also like something quicker.

I have a little boy that rides in the back seat and I wanted to see if anyone had directly compared the rear seat space between the two.

Any help and insight is appreciated. I'd go see for myself but at this point I'm kicking tires and don't want to waste anybodies time.

I had an E39 M5 for a few years, and the E55 seems a little bigger. It has more seat adjustment (in front) and a little more legroom, but its not a huge difference. Headroom in the benz is better. I don't know if it makes a difference, but my E39 backseats could fold down and make the trunk bigger. E55 won't do that. I have not had a rear facing child seat in the E55 though, that was when I really needed the extra space.

I don't really need a mile of room back there, but a bit more would be good. My seats don't fold down so that's not something I'd miss.

I've had both a 540i and now an 07 E63, and find the overall space to be much better in the E63. On my 07, the seats do fold down which makes things easier, but overall I would say the back seat space is larger than an E39, but not by a huge margin.

The W211 is bigger than the E39, but as others have stated, not by much.

For the W211 E63, the seats fold down. In the wagon, the cargo room is downright cavernous - I posted a pic a while ago at https://mbworld.org/forums/w211-amg/...amg-wagon.html.

To me, the e55 feels to have much more rear seat room. I have an 03 540i and I wouldn't use it with4 adults, my e60 is a bit bigger but feel e55 is fine.
