E55 Won't Start :(

My E55 has been down for quite sometime and I am trying to diagnose what is wrong with the car. After putting the car back together and having the car retuned I was able to get it running again but it began to idle extremely rough and died on me in a turn lane of an intersection:smash: Since the car died the engine will crank but the car will never start(50+ cranks) and the fan just turns on and starts running for a while then shuts off...

Don't wanna waste your time so here is a:

Quick Summary

:nix: I've doubted this was my problem but how often do you guys see M113K's with internal issues? I would think it is a sturdy block so I don't see how much could go wrong even with my 113,XXX miles on the car...

Two things you did to make your life more complicated is put on an FSP, and TB shaft grind. (just recently someone posted that the TB grind was the source of major headaches.)

The MAP code comes from the FSP.

If your revs go up, without the car increasing in speed, then you've got transmission problems.

Start your troubleshooting by going back to a stock pulley, and TB would be my suggestion.

Uraberg suggestion is a good start, go back as close as you can to stock and see if you have the same problems.

You could have two problems. The hard starting could be the CPS. Mine was not the sensor itself but the connector thereto.

As for the p0105 code (MAP) aka the hiccup problem, mine finally was resolved by the tuner with a new tune that specially addressed that problem. However, I had the 80tb with the shaft grinded. When I did install my oem 74, the problem was greatly reduced but did not totally go away as I still had the tune for the bigger tb. It was not until I got a tune that specifically addressed this problem that it finally went away. Good luck.

I understand there have been hiccups with the FSP but I doubt that is enough to prevent the car from even starting. Any these issues would make sense normally if the car just ran poorly, but the motor will not turn over at all.

Radio, interior lights and etc. all work / comes on right? If so, then check to see if you are getting fuel to the engine.

      Back to basics

      Have you got Fuel/Air/Spark

      Check fault codes

      Compression test

      Camshaft Sensor

Good luck, hope you resolve it quickly

if the engine fan runs fast without the engine running it could be an engine ecu problem. the fan is in emergency mode

Thanks guys. That's exactly how I thought to break it down, back to basics. Fuel/Air/Spark.

Plugs were installed correctly. *One of the injectors on does not have the clip/retainer holding it to the fuel rail but that shouldn't be a reason to impede flow through the injector. I did not put the clip on simply so I can rotate the injector so the harness does not hit the vacuum on the valve breather cover. I need to check again with the dealer, but I am fairly sure the new fuel pumps/sending unit have been replaced so the whole fuel system should be good.

Does anyone think it is possible that a boost leak within the system will cause the engine to not start? I could have reason to believe the supercharger/intercooler flange could possibly be letting some charge escape.

I had my ECU reflashed with a custom tune, but that a reflash shouldn't make the car not start right?

Is the camshaft position sensor something that goes out on 55K AMG's a lot?

Everything on the car was running fine from the 3 hour drive from LA to SD, and nothing was changed before it died. So what could be different enough in the system to cause it to fail?Trying make sure every aspect of combustion cycle would be accounted for and to pinpoint the problem. Thanks for the help! Others chime in please

Get someone with star to look at the car. It should give you an indication of what is going on.

From some more research about the fan operating it seems like it may be an ECU problem. Are there particular fuses that may help the ECU operate?

Not enough voltage to the ECU?

You are going on a tangent. First simplify the system by removing complicating/unknown factors. Occam's razor always applies.
You tried to solve a problem by making the system more complicated. This is always the wrong way to go.

Don't **** about. Don't throw more parts at it. get a diagnosis first, then fix.

I had the same problem on my e55 and it turned out to be water ingress in the ecu due to the fuse box cover not correctly refitted. I removed the ecu and separated the cover. And found corrosion inside the unit. Cleaned it all off with wd40 and then the car ran perfect. Got to be worth a try?

Check the fuel pump relays. They can burn out. Higher revs with no power increase sounds like tranny to me too.

Thanks guys I'll have the dealer give it a try!!!

      Any solutions

      NafisC Sep 23, 2015 01:25 AM

Unfortunately no solutions were ever found. Sold the car 3 months ago

Wowsers. We'll my car is at the dealer. I will.post what they find.
