Remove annoying "don't forget key" beeping
If you have a W211 here is a quick write up of how to remove the annoying beeping noise every time you open your door. took me about 1 hour doing this the first time.
1. remove housing around speedometer. this is what the clips look like. just wiggle and slide toward steering wheel https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.mbw...a675f1406b.jpg 2. remove 4 T20 torx screws. they are held in by a plastic shroud so you shouldn't have to worry about them falling out and getting lost. https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.mbw...7385414ca3.jpg 3. tilt the speedometer toward the steering wheel. then work the right side out. pretty much wish wiggle the thing out. it is a little tight but it will come out. 4. disconnect the power. slide the grey locking clip down and plug will pop out. https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.mbw...37e2ecf7eb.jpg 5. unclip the 5 black plastic clips holding the clear front case, then rotate the front case around the stem coming out the left side. will look like this. couldn't figure out how to disconnect the stem so i just rotated around it. just be careful not to break the stem. https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.mbw...38c6a0f703.jpg 6. use a flat head screwdriver and unclip the 4 clips holding the circuit board in. pull off the back cover. https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.mbw...0a036ffdbe.jpg https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.mbw...edaa3814ef.jpg https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.mbw...25a0a39b60.jpg https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.mbw...a227dc03c6.jpg 7. locate the beeper. i pulled out the speaker and used wire cutters to cut the 2 wire leads. if you wanted to install a new quite beeper you could solder a new one on to these leads. https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.mbw...3113d10b2a.jpg https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.mbw...9b31dc8a2e.jpg https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.mbw...01fe44100c.jpg https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.mbw...538a27443c.jpg 8. put everything back in reverse order. |
Nice write up.
But this can be done with star in about five minutes. |
or just hit the "up" button on the left side of the steering wheel.

Just set Keyless Go to not present in CGW. Keyless Go will still work and no more annoying beep.

that beep is annoying -- no other issues introduced by disabling keyless go in star ?

All you have to do to disable the chime is set the central gateway to "rest of world."
None of this happy horse**** in this thread. |

That's interesting, So we are the only country subjected to the chime. Maybe they thought it would be funny. Tell all their friends what they did to the americans.
For some reason they wanted that reminder in the USA. Maybe it had to do with insurance, and thefts associated with leaving the Keyless-Go key inside the vehicle in the US. That's entirely speculation though, as I haven't cared since I disabled only the chime for the key reminder. |
