Welcome! It's pretty slow for us W211 E63 folks, but it's all good. No IC pump issues here lol.
The best bang for buck mod on the M156 is LTH (long tube headers). These things like to breathe. I wouldn't waste my time with just a tune. Weistec would be my choice for any M156 mods.

MBWorld Fanatic!
to really open it up
do the ECU (EC, OE, Renntech) all similar, shorty headers, and ROW air boxes - even with all that you will only top out at 550-560 hp - but will sound more fun at WOT
i absolutely love my 63 NA - it just keeps pulling and pulling - but do miss my 55 on occasion for that muscle car grunt -

New owner also...sorry to hear this. My Mercedes dealer's AMG tech told me he had never personally seen an M156 head bolt failure (in Ohio). He believed it was a cold weather phenomena, caused by aggressive driving before the engine had reached operating temp. Not trying to start anything here just reporting what he told me. I hope it is something less in your case. But I would have it towed in and be sure they know what you found before they start it. Yes please keep us updated.

Hi sorry
The car is back and running it was a head bolts on the left
So now all new bolts ECU done by EC and row air box it is great
Shopping around for LTH but don't know if is worth spending 3K for 35whr.
or get some carbon air intakes for 1k and 20 whp
As well debate over should I put C63 mufflers or delete the resonator?
Any suggestions?
Thanks for asking
With the V5 tune from EC it's crazy how much is pulling after 5k RPM.

I had ARH LTH's installed (with tune) from EC. I left the stock resonator and mufflers in place. Works just right for me, personally. Not only the gains (although not outrageous hp-wise, they do change the driving dynamics of the car very favorably), but the sound is quite nice. I was worried that it would be outrageous and I'd hate it, but it turned out to be anything but. Keeping the resonators and mufflers in place was the perfect fit for me. A little throatier driving around town, but WOT, she really starts screaming. Loving it.

I think if you have ROW boxes, you likely won't get much, if any, further gains by swapping to carbon (fiber?) air intakes. And I think 10-12hp max would be most likely on any intake that makes her breathe easier. I believe Renntech claims their intakes are good for 20hp, which seems to be higher than all others, but I doubt you could easily find a set for $1k even if they do actually provide the gain they claim.
