W211 Black Headlight Assembly Needed
I have a black Mercedes E55 AMG. It has blacked out headlight assembly now. Not tineted but actual assembly is blacked out.
A road projectile put a god chip in one so now need to replace them both but having an issue finding the right ones.
I have the HID lights, with the autolevel in them. I find the Spyder blacked out lights but they have no autolevel option.
1. Anyone know of a blacked out HID with the autolevel installed?
2. Has anyone replaced their autolevel HIDs with the Spyder lights and it OK? No errors?
Any advice is appreciated. Body shop has the front end off and I need to make a quick decision.
I also plan on buying a Godhand style splitter so any recommendations on that is great to.,

Take the factory light and use a heat gun to remove the lens......satin black paint the bezel.....black silicone.....done.

You can buy the cheapest aftermarket headlights you can find and put them in the oven low heat for 10-15 minutes and switch the lenses.

Boom^ I just did this to my factory active lights on my 07 E63. I painted them gunmetal instead of black though.
Remove all the metal clips that hold the lens then pop the assembly in the oven for 5-7 minutes at 200 and you can pull the lens right off. If you want to paint another set or re-paint the existing housings, there is a torx holding the bottom tab of the inner housing to the assembly which can be hard to see with the adhesive covering it. The rest just pull right out. If you just want to swap the outer lens, then just follow the first steps.

Thanks!! Me too. I tried another shade but it was too dark. This is actually engine paint from Advanced Auto. I used regular paint in my Volvo and it bubbled from the heat. This color is matte cast aluminum. And perfectly matches the gunmetal vinyl that will be used to wrap my grill and all chrome trim.

The color name is very misleading too. Because it's more of a dark silver/titanium than you would think when you see "aluminum". I feel like it could have come like this from the factory. And I feel it should have to help set the E55/E63 apart from the others a tad more.

Guys I have a set of Depo headlights that I bought just for the outer lenses, they are taking up space in my shop and I'll let them go for $200 + shipping.

I just put them in the oven again while apart, then joined them together, put them back in for a bit and lastly, pressed them together tightly by hand and re-installed the metal retainer clips. Zero moisture inside since.

The problem with going with the above eBay headlights is that the projectors are going to be inferior.
Pretty much throwing away $200+ to get crappier lighting but with black housings.
As mentioned above bake your headlights if you want them black and either paint them or have a shop do it. It will still cost you less and you retain your factory projectors which are nicer... while you are at it, you could even change the Fresnel lens to a clear one for greater clarity and more color flicker/band on the cut off.
When we had our CLK I backed the lights and painted them black. Looked really good.
I was tempted to paint our w211's headlights black when I was doing a bi-xenon retrofit but opted out of it only because I kinda dig the mono chromatic look of silver now on everything on the car.

lol. I wouldn't necessarily say they suck. Hell e55 bi-xenon projector is a classic with an epic high beam. Very few bi-xenon projectors give such a large highbeam spot light.
Are they perfect, no way but they are pretty good considering their age and how many manufactures used them on cars.
They definitely need tweaking a tad. The easiest thing to greatly change how they look is swapping the fresnel lens with a clear ZKW-R lens.
See before picture with stock fresnel lens then swapped with clear. They do have nice color flicker and a nice bluish/purplish band that is way more visible once that's done.
