Input requested Please, 2007 E63 with 59K miles...Warranty???
Hi guys,
I have just purchased a 2007 E63 with 59,000 miles on it. It had a bit of work done on it by the previous owner.
Work included:
1. $10,000 engine work at 58,000 miles.
Replace camshaft adjusters
Cam shafts
valve tappets
Replace T-stat, coolant reservoir and coolant
Replace Fuel tank
2. Replace Right front leaking airmatic strut @ 56,000 miles/ Apr 2015
3. Replace steering column module (ESP light comes on) 52,000 miles/Jun 2014
4. D service (air filter, cabin filter, Spark plugs, oil change at 52,000 miles/ July 2014.
5. Replace Fuel level sender unit left side
Replace Transmission conductor plate/speed sensor at 52,000 miles/June 2014
6. Remove and replace rear main seal
Remove and reseal upper and lower oil pan gaskets at 39,000 miles/ Aug 2012
I have an option to purchase a Mercury MBI 3 yr/36,000 miles Platinum warranty that covers everything including gaskets and seals but NOT wear and tear items with 100 deductible for $8,000. YES, I know $8K is crazy money.
I plan to keep the car for 3 years or more depending on how it treats me. and Driving probably less than 10,000 miles per year.
Considering the cost of the warranty and the work already done on the car, does it make sense to purchase the warranty???
Thanks in advance for your opinions and feedback,
H.

8k is a lot...i estimate 1-3k per year on repairs so if you're maxing out 3k x 3 years you'd be at 9k.
seems most things have already been addressed...all thats left is headbolts and random german things that fall into the 1-3k bucket, but more so closer to 1k.

There are several threads about the head bolts. I can't believe they spent 10k on the engine and didn't do the head bolts when it's one of the most well known problem. I think there's a debate that you can just replace one bolt at a time vs doing the head gasket and replacing all of them at once. The bolts are cheap, but you have to take apart a few things to get at the bolts so the old threads seem to say 1-2k depending on how it's done.

I purchased a 3 year 54k mile warranty from Lasalle for my 07 with 34k miles. I read good things about them on several high end car forums. Major mechanical only and $500 deductible. Was $3800 or so.

my estimates are a head bolt job can cost anywhere between 2500-5k if you end up doing other things like lifters buckets. huge spread but things add up. you can use weistec studs, have your head gaskets changed, have your heads sonic cleaned, new buckets, new camshafts.
some who have just had their bolts swapped one by one paid a little bit less, i'm not exactly sure how much that would cost.
