Low dyno numbers

1 Attachment(s)
Took my car down to a dyno day a couple of weeks back and was disappointed by results, 374 whp and 444tq was best run, intercooler pump was replaced couple months before the run, dyno jet

E55Freak 05-26-2016 03:25 PM

if you are stock you are just slightly down from stock numbers..~400 rwhp is normal.

i believe for a dyno jet it shouldn't be reading that low because that equates to around 449hp at crank (rough estimate) but the e55s were underrated so it should be making around 500 hp crank stock I believe, car has 70k

alihou007 05-26-2016 08:35 PM

If this helps you....my stock 06 wagon with 75K miles on it dynoed at 389 HP and 438 Tq on a Dynojet.

15% loss puts it at 447 HP and 504 Tq
18% loss puts it at 459 HP and 517 Tq

Given the age and mileage...seems within the range.

Rocman8 05-26-2016 08:43 PM

Sounds normal especially not knowing altitude and temperature

I heard this car has a 20% loss and all I do is 374x1.2 which gives me around 449hp crank (rough estimate) and on top of that the car is underrated so idk just worried something is not right

But the torque figure seems about right, just the hp that's bothering me, I'm trying to get her as healthy as possible before mods, promised myself mods would come only when she's at 100% health

You're doing the math backwards. Do 469 x .80

One of the best ways to determine health is compression test

I will definitely do a commpression test soon and if I do 469x.8 that equates to 375 and my car put down 374 so it should be nothing to worry about then?

Rocman8 05-26-2016 10:06 PM

I wouldn't worry. Do you know your altitude and what your intake air temp was and do you have the air fuel ratio from the dyno?

Don't have any of that but was going to do couple maintenance related stuff and then dyno her again but this time record everything

+1

Don't even bother to mod til you do this , in fact should be done before buying Good luck!

Are the fuel pumps and filter in good shape?

I'm not too sure as the pumps are factory and I have not done the fuel filters but I believe my fuel pumps are on there way out because it has stalled twice within 2 weeks on morning start ups and my warranty covers fuel pumps so I'm basically waiting to change out the pumps

E55Greasemonkey 05-26-2016 10:59 PM

Check for fuel leaks under the back seat- read about the extended warranty for the free fuel tank/pump/filter replacement. Fill the tank up- if you smell gas afterwards you may be eligible for the free replacement.

Never noticed fuel smell ever, did 05s still have that issue?

Most definitely

Do you know how long that warranty was extended?

Rocman8 05-26-2016 11:04 PM

15 years unlimited miles. There's a sticky on this in this forum.

374 ÷ 0.8 = 467

Ruthle55 05-26-2016 11:28 PM

You're down like 15-20rwhp. So many factors. You didn't log a single thing, and you're disappointed.

Come on.

I'm new to all this I'm still learning, I now know what I have to do so I will start logging everything

sexyxe 05-27-2016 02:42 AM

If you're stock, doing it in 4th, it was the third pull. You've probably heat soaked a touch and have started to add some fuel and drop some timing. Wouldn't get too sexed up about it. Hit the track. Run a low 12 high, 11 at 118-120 and you'll be in the right range.

BlackHammer 05-27-2016 03:31 PM

A few things:
1) Your dyno line trajectory looked like a mini seesaw. Something is not right but don't freak.
2) If no one has told you buy some diagnostic equipment. I am no expert on it so search the threads...
3) If you don't like the #'s let the mods begin!

*******HOWEVER************

4) MOST IMPORTANT; enjoy the car. It will never dyno high enough, run ET's as low as you want, trap as high as you want, or etc, etc, etc, etc.

Plus, someone will ALWAYS be faster (often in something that costs 1/4 of the price of your car). It is just the way it is...
