SPEEDRIVEN STAND ALONE ECU
Seems that SPEEDRIVEN has done it. Stand alone on an sl600 and sl65. Want to know from SPEEDRIVEN now ....can this be made for the E55?

Sure it can. I spoke to them the other day about it. I did not get the impression it has driven anywhere yet or more than around the parking lot. And they were implying a rather huge price tag.

It is just that it is a 6,000 dollar ecu plus R&D. Plus wiring. This is going to be a very expensive product and how big is the group buy. Maybe 5 or 6 people on a good day.
And as I said. A short vid of an engine running and driving a car and then driving a car without problems are very different.

The issue with Mercedes tuning is when the cars are new and the owners can afford to spend the money on something like that, they hesitate because of warranty and general satisfaction with the cars current performance. When the cars drop in value and it gets to the third and fourth owners (who are generally the modding type), they don't want to spend that kind of money on an ECU. Yes, there are a few exceptions here and there, but that's the general consensus of the AMG ownership with regards to modding/tuning.

Could be a real breakthrough. Maybe it will be able to overcome all the stock ECU limits that must be the culprit killing the 1/4 mile times on the big hp V12 MB's?

Not trying to take away from what you are doing and have done. I know how hard it is. There is just more to do. And I think people get over excited about things like this. The expectation of factory driveability and all systems working as factory and having a no limits ecu or tcu is just not realistic. There is a reason it takes years and millions of dollars to develop a platform for the manufacturer and then another few years of being in the market place with updates to fix issues that got through production and design.
I get people all the time with the tcu stuff that want it to be factory in every way. PLug and play with no tuning for less than a couple of thousand dollars.

Out Of Control!!
Cool build Glad someone broke out the checkbook to build a mercedes racecar (besides jrcart who already had standalone ECU years ago). The turbos sticking out the hood is a bit much for me but to each his/her own. Having standalone and a 9" rear will be great for drag racing, but I will be interested how it runs for a daily where there is plenty of part throttle. The standalone ECU will take a lot of dialing in. Will this ever be a street car or is it restricted to drag racing duty? Good luck with the build!

Stock E55 is limited to 17 psi so consider yourself lucky! I had to bleed off boost from the bypass valve to keep it from going into limp mode. Didn't want to go the map clamp route but now I kinda wish I had just to see what it would do at full tilt. Oh well
As far as jrcart car. It was not full interior but I don't know if the standalone was fully integrated. Is the SL gonna be full stock interior?

Pretty close? It will have a cage and will run a proper race seat at drag strips, but it will be full interior, probably more than full weight.
