e55's TRUE power!!

the e55 is a beast! but with chip tuning it brings the hidden beast out! i test drove an E55 with chip tuning done... damn it is fast! I think they purposely didnt tune the e55 to as powerful as it could be.

JamE55 Mar 25, 2004 08:44 AM

Which or who's E55 is this you test drove and what exactly did it have in it mods wise? How much hp was it putting out?

Of course they didn't....neither does any other passenger car manufacturer. Every car is detuned from what its peak capabilities are for reliability reasons.

one of our customers let us test drive the car after we tuned it. its a 211 not a 210. so far did 3 of em.

How did you do the chip tuning?

Anything besides the ECU?

CarlssonCRS Mar 25, 2004 01:41 PM

just the ECU. i was suprised that just tuning the ECU can make such a difference.

t-bone Mar 25, 2004 01:48 PM

I'm curious as to how easy it is to do chip tuning.

I'm not too familiar with chip tuning though. Do you just sit the car on the dyno and then change things to the ECU and see how much better it gets?

Which brand/make ECU is this that you guys used? How much increase in hp?

BenzoBoi Mar 25, 2004 01:53 PM

More info please

its a pretty quick process. im not the expert, but from what i see..... they take out the ECU, open it up and take out a chip. they attach it to a device that hooks up to a computer. then runs so programs on the computer and a graph on its power level is brought up. then the egineer can change the levels of output from there....

i dont know if thats exactly whats going on... but from what i see thats what it looks like.

No problems?

No errors after the tuning?

What kind of gains?

And at what cost?

How about warranty? Is that voided or do you guys offer a warranty plan?

I just want to be safe before I do anything.

Thanks.

In standard form, the E55 AMG Kompressor 5.5 V8 produces 469 hp and 516 lb.-ft.

ECU tuning has a range of different programming to suit your car, which can increase it's power to between 483 hp and 497 hp, and it's torque to between 531 lb.-ft and 546 lb.-ft.

this graph shows the power gains with 91 octane fuel:

sorry i dont think i can state that info... i am NOT soliciting a sale. as you may have noticed, we are no longer sponsors of this forum.

i was just stating my observations on the effects of chip tuning. :D

Looks like this is the Powerchips upgrade...

Looks pretty good...Any plans for a pully/ecu combo? I saw on Powerchips website, they have a link for pully/ecu, but it's not ready yet.

I'm waiting to see what EVO has up their sleeves...

BlownV8 Mar 25, 2004 06:46 PM

Do you have a real dyno graph from a Dynojet? I seriously doubt they straped the E55 engine to an engine dyno to get the results from the attached dyno graph.

stephens Mar 26, 2004 02:22 AM

I have all the before and after graphs for the Powerchips ECU upgrade along with the pulley upgrade kit as my car has been used for the development.

Awesome, the improvements listed on their website are conservative. Around 50hp at the rear wheels for the ECU upgrade with airfilters and the air tube.
The pulley is good for another 40hp at the rear wheels and a huge increase in torque between 2000-4000rpm.

yea i know. we did 3 e55s already.... all the owners love it. they were skeptical at first... we said. how bout we do it for you first and if you dont like it we'll take it off..... but they all loved it! :D

My current upgrades,
ECU, larger Pulley, S500 air tube, air intake hole modification and heat tape around the air filter housings. If you do these relatively simple modifications, 99% of all unmodified street cars can be seen in your rear view mirror. Including ......
