Finally solved steering clunk / pop sound

I finally fixed a one year steering clunk sound that was coming from the drivers side front of the car. Nothing seemed to fix it - I replaced every front end arm and bushing, the sway bar, steering bushings, and addressed the steering plate. The sound came only at low speeds (parking, etc.) in forward and reverse at almost any steering angle.

The sound was from my driver side Arnott strut with 20k miles on it. My 160k mile passenger side strut is perfect, btw. Since the strut was new, I never suspected it.

What did you end up doing? Replaced the driver side strut?
How did you find out?

Thank you for sharing

Congrats, 20k miles is really low for an arontt? Is it a defect?

A bunch of TT's
I know that symptom was all too annoying. Mine turned out to be swaybar after changing a few things as well. Good for you

Yep, I replaced it, after replacing everything else, and it finally stopped.

The previous owner installed the strut so I couldn't use Arnotts warranty. I went with a rebuild master tech strut. Looks to be good quality and they marked the strut as an amg specific strut which I liked (on a sticker with the PN) . The arnott didn't have any mention of amg on the strut. We'll see how it holds up.

Nothing has happened to the strut while I've owned the car. It appeared since I've owned it, and got progressively louder and more consistent over the past 6 months, so it is possible that it's a defect.
