E55 hesitates/stutters on 1-2 shift
I bought my '06 AMG with about 79000 miles on it. From the day I bought it, it usually has a hesitation on the 1-2 shift. I've tried to see of there's a pattern to it, but really can't tie one down. Once in a while it doesn't do it. It seems to do it less at heavy to full throttle.
I live in Houston, so I went down to Eurocharged to have them install their engine tune (which is awesome, by the way). On a whim, while there, I had them do the transmission program tune as well. That made no difference in the hesitation on the 1-2 shift at all.
Does anyone have any ideas on this?
Also, speaking of the Eurocharged trans tune, I really can't say that I noticed it do anything at all, not just with the 1-2 shift problem, but I noticed no changes overall at all. Their engine tune is really good, but what exactly is their transmission tune supposed to do? What am I missing?
Thanks!

Check your ignition wires and coils. I had an issue years ago where my rpms would drop when shifting from first to second gear. I removed all of the coils and wires to see if any were bad. Here is what I found.
A new coil and iginition wire solved my problem.

Yeah have to say the same thing bout the EC trans tune I dont notice anything shifts dont seem any faster, firmer, or anything so you would think there would be a noticable difference for 600 bucks.
On another note I am having the exact same thing go on with my 1-2 shift sometimes it does it others not so much. I have had it checked by MB im good friends with the shop foreman hes recoded it .... checked the codes ... never any .... so far I have changed fluid using MB134 new filter .... there was zero sign of any wear no shavings of any kind ... but no change. I have the dipstick to check out the level and its always perfect so thats not it. I have a new remanned MB trans and torque converter with less than 18k on it. I have a new TCU .... also had it EC tuned which didnt notice anything over my old stocker. I have changed the adapter and cleaned the wires and connectors at both ends with electrical cleaner. Reset the trans adaptions as well to no avail.
I havent had anyone find anything wrong nor any ideas as to what the problem may be. I have a weird sometimes studder or as I call it a double shift and yes mine too is better if i give more or full throttle. I also have a less frequent problem it happens once in a while, it will go into reverse just fine but when i put it into D it will take 7 to 10 secs to engage but normally goes right in. All other gears shift perfectly so I too am completely confused.

O-55's tip is a good suggestion, especially if plugs or coilpacks haven't been done recently.
Have you had a transmission service done on the car recently? If not that's where I would start.

This is exactly my problem with both my 55's with EC tunes. I don't think it is the tunes. The SL has a stage 3 kit w/77mm pulley and split cooloing and trans tune. The E has only an 83mm pulley and tune. The SL is worse than the E but both were slow shifting when stock but this is amplified with the tunes I think. A forum member suggests it is leaks around the supercharger. I can't get my head around that though.

I have the hesitation on my CLS55 at 1st to 2nd change only, happens at the top of the rev range and usually only under WOT or near WOT. I will check my plugs and coils tomorrow I also have a rough idle and STFT of -6-8% on one bank and like -1-2% on the other which indicates a small leak or slight problem with ignition as my fuel pump is new (maybe a bad injector though?)
I have a bunch of mods including ECU and TCU but swear this happened when stock and EC ECU tune.

These motors are very finicky. Are you sure it's not the factory common dragged-out LONG a$$ 1-2 shift these cars are known for? Similar to the jerkiness of the clutch engagement that most stock E55 owners experience (especially new owners). These are typical things owners know about. This is my third E55 and every single one had a very slow 1-2 shift. I attributed it to the same gremlin that's in charge/responsible for all the electrical/sensor headaches we go through with our beloved E55s ...
