Headlight replacement seems to be a PITA on these cars. I just recently purchased a 2006 E55 and about the only thing wrong with it is the driver side headlight upper mounting tab is broken, so the light sags a little. The lenses are a little dull but not too bad.

I was looking to find a direct replacement housing but that is turning out to be more difficult than I thought it would be. I have the bi-xenon HID lights but everything I've been able to find online regarding replacement units for these (besides the OEM crazy-overpriced units) seems to indicate I'd need to purchase and install all new ballasts and wiring and all that. I'm not sure how these work, but aren't the headlight housings just that, housings to plug the existing lights into? Can't I just buy a new housings and just remove the existing lights and wiring, remove the old housing, install new housings and re-install the lights? Am I overthinking this and missing something here? If so, anyone know where to source non-OEM housings at a decent price?

I searched the forums here but didn't find much useful info regarding a simple remove and replace headlight housing.

You can get a replacement tab repair kit from the mb dealership, cut the remainder of the old tab off and the replacement tab screws in.

I have this same issue with the passenger side head light. Do you happen to have a part number for the tab repair kit?

Each kit contains 3x brackets and 6x screws

Also check out Fleabay ... the prices for the mounts can be found significantly cheaper than the dealer. Search on W211 headlight repair or something similar.
