I mean this with the utmost respect, but I think you're stressing over this waaaayyyy too much. I can assure you that the engineers wouldn't put an inferior system on a car of this caliber.

Are they as pretty as the 4-pot aluminum calipers? Not by a long shot. Do they safely stop the car and provide adequate brake balance to the front, to prevent them from overheating in track use? I'm sure the engineers' data would say "yes". Do they cost less for MB to produce while achieving similar performance as the more expensive units, thus keeping the MB TDC department happy? Seems to be the case.

As long as they match, and it's the same for every new owner, it is what it is.

Not stressing for say, just trying to spark a conversation about something I'm interested in Everyone else in the W211 AMG threads are talking about the E55, and about how much HP their producing, 1/4 mile times, LTH, ECU/TCU tunes etc. What they should be talking about is how many issues they have with trying to modify these cars. These E55s have so many issues, compared to the E63, just saying!

No worries.

I do agree that stopping is THE most important function when it comes to our cars

You can have all the horsepower in the world, but at some point we must stop And brakes are the most important part of the car

Yes, I'm thoroughly upset about it. I first saw the single piston rear brakes, or whatever they are, on a C63. Immediately noticed it and didn't like it. Now that I'm seeing S63s with those tiny, ugly, cheap looking rear calipers, I find it completely unacceptable. Especially when you're still paying a premium for the performance and carbon ceramics. I'd like to hear MB's official response on this. If it's so great, why are we not seeing them on comparable vehicles from other manufacturers? Maybe we are and I just missed it, but I don't think so... Pretty sure RS7s and Panamera Turbos aren't running these. Aren't these rear brakes the same thing you'd see on a 5k used Ford Focus? I don't care if they aren't necessary, it doesn't look right without them. Haha. For that matter, AMGs are all about excess in the first place. No one NEEDS one. You buy an AMG because of the AMG heritage, the MB name, and the fact that they're disgustingly excessive. That's the whole point. MB doesn't seem to understand their customers or they simply don't care. MB has also been way too cocky and way too independent when it comes to customer service, for way too long; but we keep buying them anyway b/c we love them. That's the problem, they know that...

For the record, the Audi RS7 does have a single piston sliding caliper. And it does look cheap. With a car with so much power, and with big beefy brake up front, and a single caliper in the rear.
But Audi isn't the only other manufacturer doing this, BMW has done this to their M5 and M6. I can't nail exactly when Mercedes-AMG stopped this, but I would say around 2015-2016 time frame.

This is a page of brochure of W213 for UK.
But I can see a lot of pictures of E63s with ceramic rotor and 1-piston caliper on rear. Is it updated to 4-piston? or incorrect brochure?

I know that AMG has changed the rear 4 piston caliper for their CCB to single pistons, on the E63S, the GTC, GTS and GTR, as well as their S Class. I can't recall if their are other AMG with CCB, besides the fore mentioned models.
