I have searched an havent seen many if any before an after dynos with just a tb switch so was wondering if its even worth the trouble for a daily driver. I got one with mu new 580 pn low mileage blower but used a stock back half an my stock tb. But i hear bad things bout the hiccups but not much bout the benefits an actual before an after dyno. If its worth it i have no problem removin an installing it .... do u need to change ur tune??

I think others are right when they say the "hiccup" is caused by installation issues. My car has a pretty bad hiccup and when I talked to Tony about it the first thing he wanted me to do was run a smoke test to see if there are any vacuum leaks. There is a leak coming from the bypass valve, so we haven't gone any further troubleshooting it until I get that fixed. It will be done over the winter so I won't know for sure if it's tune-related or vacuum leak-related until that gets done.

I just did my blower and replaced every gasket on the top end, intake, surge, bypass, bypass sealing ring, back part of the blower where the TB connects, the tb gasket, the hose that connects to the valve covers and tb, the map sensor, the air injection, the intercooler, and the intercooler hoses and clamps. So im pretty sure i dont have any vacuum leaks but never know. It seems to be runnign great with the stock TB at the moment

Yeah, I did all that too, but I still have a leak. Unfortunately I did it all myself so I can't pass the buck on this one.

Given that there's a 50% chance that your are going to run into issues, I'd suggest dont do it.
Primarily hiccup issues. Search this forum.

Fitted my 82mm about 15 months ago. Blower has come off a few times since for other work. No hiccups, no driveability issues, no rough idle.

I've been on the fence for awhile on going with an 82mm TB. In the end my car simply runs so smooth now I didn't want to chance it. With my mods and being an '04 I would have to go larger injectors as well.

What impact does the year have on whether or not you need injectors?

I've been told the '03/'04 cars have different Injectors as the 05/'06 cars. I don't have exact specs of each so maybe someone can chime in. That said with my current mods and knowing my dyno I know going to a larger TB w/out addressing the stock injectors would be an issue.

I'm in the same boat with 1 more mod = bigger injectors required. I probably should already have them to be safe but oh well. Makes sense that later years were a bit more reliable.

Just in response to the original poster. I believe I read that a 78-80mm TB was worth 20hp and a massive one (90-92mm) was worth up to 40 or 50. I can't remember if that was wheel either but I think it was.

I think the gains are nice, but the risk of hiccup is quite a put off.

Once I had a vacuum leak, it was really odd. I wasn't seeing a noticeable drop in boost and the car would drive fine. Until something triggered the ECU to go into 'bug mode'. All of a sudden my fuel trims would hit 25% and my idle would be rough as all hell. Obviously if I gave it some pedal it would run on the tuned MAP's fine. If I restarted the car it would drive fine until 'cruising' triggered the ECU to start bugging out. I took it to the dealer, they took off a surge tank and found a metal hose that runs to it had come loose, they put it back in and I never had a problem again. Its odd to me because it wasn't the leak causing me problems, it was the ECU going haywire due to parameters being out of what was expected. Maybe this adds some weight to the theory that a small vacuum leak causing the hiccup issue.

My 82mm TB gave me 25whp on the dyno, .1 sec and 1mph increase in the 1/4 mile. Sure felt like a lot more though!

Was that after a retune? Was that going from a 80mm to 82mm or 74mm to 82mm? An was that the only change you made?

Sounds about right. Throttlebody works best with headers. Pulley would help too. If you dont have those expect less.

I replaced every gasket you could think of, torqued everything to spec but still got the CEL and hiccup. Tested for leaks a few times and found nothing so im back to stock tb for now and its running fine. Going to try an 80mm instead!

Just to make sure the issue is the same, what is the code you get behind CEL?

is it P0505?

yes p0505 first then once I got the hiccup I had p0106 too

Yep, Identical to what I have here, on top of that, I am seeing TB angles of close to 0.

I have a pile of gaskets in the trunk, I was hoping to replace all this weekend to cure the issue, as I was doubting the bypass valve neck to be leaking (the only gasket i did not replace when I installed the 82mm TB)

I think you probably have a leak. Im seeing angles of 2.0 and it sometimes dips to 1.6 for a few seconds. My stock tb does the same. I never logged angles stock so I dont have anything to compare to.

I truly hope I do, I ll be severely bummed if I dont, and I waste 60 bucks of gaskets, and 6+ hours over nothing...

I have a brand new one if you need it I bought one and they gave me 2 lol


Also let me make a quick recommend when your changing the gaskets use some copper spray on both sides of all gaskets it tends to help it seal a lil better.
