Bad ECU, what's next?
Been chasing a few electrical gremlins for the last few weeks that have progressively gotten worse. Narrowed the ECU down as the culprit after finding corrosion and water damage under most of the plugs as well as damaged and broken pinouts. What's protocol for this situation as far as the current tune in the car being moved to a new ECU or should I find another one and have a canned tune from eurocharged or another outlet installed? I'm about an hour from eurocharged, are they capable of repairing the ECU or swapping over the tune and other information to another unit? Thanks in advance.

Unless Eurocharged can re-write it for you, ECUs are VIN married to the DAS system in the car. In my experience you cannot swap a used one to a new car, but I'm not familiar with how WinOLS works and if they have the capability to reset/clear the VIN locking, although you may then have to have your new/used ECU married to the car via MB SDS software.

If you locate a used module from a simaler car, contact RaceIQ. They have the hardware to perform the software magic as far as the drive authorization. A plus would be getting a good tune at the same time. Sounds like a win win...
P.S. it may be useful to contact RaceIQ first to confirm. Otherwise, the dealer is your only option as far as I know.

I recently bought a used ECU on Ebay for $400 making sure the part number matches, send both ECU to EC to do the vin and tune swap. Everything was successful. I've been driving the car for 6 months now after the ECU swap without any problem, and no CEL. Thanks to EC. Mercedes dealer were asking for $2200 for the ECU alone.

Ensure your car has the rubber cover over the ECU and SAM. If there is not one there, buy one and install it. It is a "belt and suspenders" approach to keeping water out of the ECU and SAM. If the hard plastic cover over the ECU and SAM is not fastened securely, you risk water infiltration. The Workshop Information System (WIS) specifically calls out verifying the hard plastic cover is securely fastened. The later-model rubber cover ensures no water will infiltrate if you fail to secure the plastic cover underneath it.
The cover shown in the attached photo came standard on later years. Part number A211-830-04-13 or alternate A211-832-00-08.

Barry,
Once again you come to the rescue! I just bought one off of Ebay for $35! A211-832-00-08 was the number I searched on to get it.
Thank you for all you do for us!
