Havent driven car in 1 month, now battery dead and rear is sagging

hey all I have stored the e55 for about a month now and today i see the car wont start at all, and the rear of the car is sagging down over the tires

1) if i charge the battery to full will the rear struts inflate back to normal or does this mean they are toast and i need to tow the car? before the car was left for a month the struts were fine

2) will the sagging over the tire damage the tire?

thanks all

honestly, tires should be least of your worries if the rear has gone out. I don’t see why it would deflate cause no battery but I hope 🤞 it’s not shot. Good luck let’s hope someone can give helpful insight.

hey there, yeah i know what you mean, i just heard though that the sagging is normal after extended period of time of no driving due to the stupid airmatic suspension and that it should inflate one i recharge the battery and start the car?

not so sure 😩 I just got my e55 last week and love it. Easiest way to find out is by jumping your battery lol

Yes, in this circumstance if you start the car it should re inflate. If it doesn't THEN you have a problem,.

cdumitru 01-29-2018 12:54 AM

I sometimes don't drive mine for a month or so and when I start it seems to act up! Once or twice I thought the front was sagging, but it bounced right up when I started it. I even took it to my mechanic for piece of mind, no problems at all.
Good luck, hopefully everything is OK.

Jump it and fry some computers? Good advice.

It is "normal-ish". If air suspension is old, it will slowly leak over time.

Your options to get the car to pump itself to full are three fold:

One, get a jump box and jump the car. I have done it when my battery died- TWICE, nothing was fried. If you don't know how jump box works, or it seems complicated to you- step away from the car now and have a professional look at it.

Two, buy a new battery and put it in.

Three, buy a charger and have it charge the battery over night. Remove the battery from the car and have a charger do its thing some place dry and safe.

Once the car starts, it will start immediately pumping itself up if suspension is too low; message on the dash will say that the "car is rising". If you have problems with the shocks, then it will be pretty obvious- as the car will not rise to the proper height.

I am not 100% sure of this, but to me it also seemed that car would also pump itself up when ignition was on ON, but car not started. I cannot verify this though.

Edit: If the car sat this long and main battery is dead, I would also check the AUX battery. If you have the charger, charge both batteries or at least check the health of the AUX one. Mine was 6 years old when I checked it, so I chose to proactively replace it.

Honestly, not really a joke. What computers would I be frying? You need to calm down and snort a bit more crack in hopes you overdose. Stop attacking me, and grow up.

jeeeeezzz, if it wasn’t for the fact I said I’m 17 you never would be acting like a badass lol

I've jumped my car like 15 times no ill effects using both jumper cables and jumper packs. I read somewhere using your car to jump others is where the risk is.

I'm impressed by your thick skin.

We're getting side-tracked, gentlemen.
When disconnecting or connecting a battery, or connecting jumper cables, ensure the key fob is not in the ignition switch. If you have Keyless Go, have the key fob at least two meters away from the car. Failure to adhere to this procedure means the electronic circuits are energized; voltage spikes can then fry chips on the circuit boards. Multiple cases of folks having the key fob in the ignition while jump starting the car and blowing fuses and/or modules. The above snip shows procedures for disconnecting/connecting the batteries.
Edit: do not have key fob in switch when connecting jumper cables. Insert key after you finish making electrical arcs.

ok, maybe I have a thick skull now -- that procedure above is for removal/install, so how can you jump start the car without using the key ? seems counter intuitive
oh and I don't think you can snort crack (at least so I have heard)

See edit.

Just jump start or recharge your battery, then start your car, the suspension will raise itself once enough air is in the system. My E63 does the same after time has past.
The system is designed to bleed itself after a period of time. So that the system isn't constantly under pressure if stored for long period of time.

Whenever my car is down for repairs (and it has been down for a combined of 3 months in 1 year of ownership) I make sure to start it up and let it run 20 minutes every day. Sometimes I pop the hood open and let it run for an hour.

Jump Pack

Pep boys carries a Bosch S6 its an AGM, I paid $168 out the door. I recall it gaving a free 4 yr warrany. And as Far as jump packs go the GB 70 by Noco is an excellent choice, it is made extremely well. Autozone has them. I bought one for $175 works great and I never had a problem with my keyless go with the FOB in my pocket and jump starting. I started it six or seven times before I bought a new battery. Wasnt sure it was the battery at first because it showed over 12v most of the time. Btw mercedes road service also uses jump packs. Good thing about using a jump pack is that a rescue vehicle doesn’t have to be close to the dead battery car which can be very hazardous sometimes on a highway.
