Do I have a TCU tune?
Hey guys, new to the forum here. Just got myself a clean 04 E55 AMG. Been recently modifying it, I have a Race IQ tune, 77mm pulley, meth, and some supporting mods. I was going to get my TCU flashed but if I click the downshift button at any point it automatically shifts down into manual mode or the lower gear. I'm not sure if this is normal behavior or if there is a flash already on it. Also, one of the bolts was missing on the passenger floor board cover (to access the TCU) so that was another hint. Just curious if anyone has any insight, thanks. P.S. lord our tranny's are SLOW!

Ummm, no I think that's normal. But leave it in sport and do a pull, pay attention to where it shifts if you can. If it shifts at 6500 its most likely stock, if it shifts at 6800-7000 range it's got something done. From what I've read those are the normal red line changes made in the TCU tune. It is possible for some one to get a TCU tune but ask them to leave redline at the factory setting.
Also from what I've read on the TCU tune feedback, some people claim to notice a nice change while other claim to notice no difference. Without a "before" feel I doubt you will ever be able to tell if you can't figure it out using the shift points.
Oh and welcome!

Yes normal on 2004-06 but not 2003 cars. It is not "proper" manual mode as such, as you can still get it to change gear if you floor it. It is the same as moving the shifter side to side while in drive.

This is wrong on all tcu flashes as many tuners will not raise the rpms more then 6500 to 6600 which is stock shift points...Revving these cars past this actually hurts it overall and you will loose power .I had 4 tcu flashes only wesitec was really making them rev a lot and then that hacker dtk tried to copy with horrible success as it don't act like a wesitec at all.
Either way, take everything that guy says with a grain of salt, and check your shift points for any indication of it being higher than stock

Ahh, I stand corrected.... I guess? In light of new info provided by the resident know-it-all/one upper.... I'm pretty sure the only way you are going to be able to tell if you have a TCU tune is check your revs, if it's higher than 6500 it's probably not stock. The guy who has had 50 TCU tunes, designed 10 super charges, pilots space ships for NASA, and copies other peoples posts pretending it was his and then calls that person stupid when he is caught.... says 6600 is what people are tuning to.

Ok hater..what ever post you repeat like a little parrot .You have zero experience so why you even bother to post you clown! lol.Stock redline is not 6500 rpm by the way ...Stick to a Honda or what ever you had before cause I can tell you never owned a car over 300 hp till now.
You never had a tcu so why you even post? You never had a wesitec so why post? You don't have a ***** only a mangina ,so why post? lol.
To the other person if you not sure on if you got a tcu you can mail it in to race iq and he will gladly test it to make sure Maybe at that point if it's not you can have him flash it and send it back to you..As far as the tcu goes ,I would stick with a race iq ..

After you posted this guess who will post now?? ,I'm scared to even say his name he's just as bad as Mr. mangina ..Yea, you nailed it but when it's so small you peee on your ***** it don't count so it's just a instant mangina without custom mods needed. hahah.

You guys are a trip, thanks for the info. I was just curious since I was under the impression most e55 only go into manual if you slap the stick. I wasn’t aware that 03 and 04-06 had different tunes. I will be getting the race IQ tcu flash in the future... their customer service is amazing btw.

Think of it as hanging out with a group of guys you might or might not like in a shop and there's a good amount of **** talking going on. Don't take things personally.
You'll fit in if you're good with that. There's some knowledge here.

I can write you a custom flame tune. Put a T in your vacuum line and run some hose into the cabin and hook up a can of starting fluid to it. It’ll pop real nice whenever you hit the button, that’s how I picked up my chick bro.

I always wanted to install a hidden propane bottle with igniters in the quad-tips to surprise tailgaters, and generally discourage their habits. I suspect that would be against some law. If it wasn't I'd sell kits.

I just throw a bottle of gasoline with a lit rag out the sunroof then hit the skinny pedal.. works every time 60% of the time.

I guess that would work! A little too redneck for me, and probably still not legal. I don't want to do damage, I just want them to show a little respect.
