My Passport saved my A** on Memorial Day

I was traveling back from New Jersey to Virginia in my E63, and my radar was screaming rear laser...shifting! Apparently a trooper was shooting his laser at the rear of my car, in order to gauge my speed. And my radar was attempting to shift the return signature of his laser so that he couldn't get a true reading.
And it worked as advertised, then when I reached Annandale, VA another trooper hit me with laser hit me from the front. This one caught me completely off guard, and again laser shifting. I thought this time they had me, as I drove past him, I looked thru my rear view mirror and he never pursued me. Yes.........
This time "Catch Em" aka State Troopers didn't catch me. My Passport 9500ci although old, still works like a charm. Although very expensive, it is arguably the best money that I truly appreciate having spent. Now Passport has a 360ci out, which is an updated version of my old system, but with upgraded hardware and software.

Between my max 360 and waze I be goin 100 on cruise control on the highways reliably. Shame we can't drive such capable cars at high speeds on these smooth straight super wide highways in Florida

Yes......I hear you. Man...how I managed to get thru 4 states without getting ticketed is beyond me. And the hunters aka "Catch Em" were out in force. As for me, I don't put that much stock in Waze. I was driving thru a lot of rural country and farmland, and I don't think many people out there update Waze.

The Max 360 CI, Max CI and the IX CI are the best professionally installed detectors currently on the market, but they aren't cheap, +- $2000

Law Enforcement doesnt really need radar / laser , they know how fast your going by doing it everyday for a living ,just like watching cars at the track all day long you’ll know at the end of the day who is running 10s vs 12 s lol ,just sayin , they are all within a 3-5 mph speed determination which is honored in court ,in fact most testify to that first THEN say I confirmed my independent speed determination by using my radar /laser blah blah blah ,lol

so ,they may work But lol

Yes, the calculated eye ball can estimate your speed, but you still need concrete data to back that up. Or the case can be thrown out.

No they don't. They simply state in court to the Judge that traffic was moving consistently at 80 mph, and you passed ALL traffic moving 20mph or so faster in a reckless, and dangerous manner. Now it's not even a speeding ticket, it's worse.

You're a dangerous moron if you're driving on American freeways at 100mph, and you should have your license revoked permanently.

meanwhile my radar detector goes haywire when I honk the horn

and I pretty much leave it off since it just reminds me of all the blind spot detectors anyway

It's well worth the money in insurance savings alone if you get points racked up, let alone getting arrested for having some fun on an empty highway lol

I've seen worse **** at speeds lower than 50mph that should warrant an execution by hanging for some of the people on the road bro, get your **** together.

There are times when it's safe with no traffic, and sections of american highways that are straigher and smoother than anything I saw in Germany. If they can manage to have no limit zones in areas with turns, uphill, and downhill- we can absolutely manage it here.

It all depends on the context. You do 100mph in a Ford f250? kill yourself. Many vehicles out there, some capable- some not at all, this isn't an umbrella coverage.

If an elephant cant climb a tree, you gonna ban panthers and monkeys from climbing trees?

Anything that isn't an overdesigned sports car has no business driving high speeds- I agree. But a good driver in an AMG should not be bound by these stupid *** limits.

This. There’s a difference between going 100 in an old lifted Silverado with a stopping distance that rivals a fully loaded 18 wheeler and going 100 in a vehicle designed to do it and fully capable of doing so like an AMG.

I would like to see the speed limit raised in some rural areas, and highways just like the Autobahn

Your location says east coast. If you are super sure, then okay.

But out west of Ohio, it’s different. Large, smooth, 4 and 6 lane highways are for 90-120mph. It’s called efficient travel and please remember that a 55 mph speed was insitututed for gas savings and kept when states figured out the revenue.

Check your perspective.

I just bought Escort's Passport 9500ix, which is essentially the 9500ci wrapped up in a very small package. So now both of the vehicles have the same radar detector technology.
And the button functionality is the same. And they both us the same Defender Database for Speed and Red Light Cameras. And now my old Uniden will find a new home in my brothers vehicle.

Hopefully there are no Honda CRVs, Pilots and GMC Enclaves, some Escalades etc...where you leave.
Otherwise that mother is going to be going off all the time!!!
Unless Escort has come out with an update for it I promise you it is those vehicles making it alarm.

I have one and when I bought it several years ago it was fantastic. As of November of last year after I updated it (makes me wonder if escort had a plan to sell more newer models at Christmas ) It constantly gives false alarms for those cars listed. I’ve done a Hwy test to prove it.

A trip to Florida got sooo bad I had to unplug it.

As long as no idiot bmw drivers zig zag, then we would have higher speed limits.

For every 10 years older, you can go 10 mph higher. how about that? j/k haha

That is where you hit the mute button three times to ignore the frequency of that X, K or KA band. The detector will learn that frequency and ignore it the next time.
Also after updating it, it must learn all over again.
