At idle it will still be quiet (trust me, you want it that way) and when you gun it- it'll be nice and loud. Stock headers do a good job at keeping all the ticking quiet, from behind the car will sound nice.

Next step up would be mufflers of course, C63 will have a nice rumble at idle, but still nothing very loud.

I went from stock headers to mids and the difference was nothing crazy, you head more of the engine noise because the headers are thin, not necessarily a good feature.

"up to date" is only going to go so far on a car that's over a decade old.
What year is your harley?

Get the cats out too, they're the ones that make a difference. You'll need to get tuned for it as well bc you gain HP.

All my cats are out, to x pipe, to stock mufflers, and the car sounds nice when I drive it, quiet at idle. No cop problems and I drive it like a maniac.

On my car, it smells if the windows are open. No way of getting around that with long tubes and no cats. If my windows are up, no. If you do, your cabin air filter needs replacing or you have a fuel leak in the engine bay somewhere (depending the smell).
