Idler Pulley Broke In Half Will These Aftermarket Ones Work?

My inner (plastic) idler pulley just broke in half and shredded my new serpentine belt! I have been reading older threads about people using the Dayco 89130 aftermarket and Autozone sells a similar one 231070. I cannot find anything new on this. I really don’t want to spend the money on two new pulleys when I just need one. Anybody have any input on this? Are there any mods that need to be done for aftermarket?

I just installed another Dayco 89130 on my car along with a replacement bearing for the metal pulley. 60K miles on the older Dayco and it was doing fine; could have gone much further but I'm a stickler for replacing every 60,000 miles. Since you have to take it apart, go ahead and replace the bearing in the metal pulley. NSK or Nachi 6203-ZZC3 bearing is rated for 17,000 rpm; cheaper bearings are only rated for 12,000 rpm and the seals leak the grease out of the bearings.

The fan shroud is close to the bolt for the supercharger idler pulley, I found it best to use an 8mm box wrench around the Torx bit. If you can get a torque wrench onto the bolt, WIS calls for 58-60N-m; call it 42-44 ft-lbs.

Thank you very much for all the info! I have a couple more questions. How do you get the two pulleys apart? The SC pulley slightly wobbles, what could be causing that? How do you get the old bearing out if I wanted to replace the one on the SC pulley as well? Thanks

x2 on what bbirdwell said.

I went through the exact same headache last week. Mr. bbirdwell provide lots of details . Parts ordered via Amazon.

I removed the fan shrout, to get better access, discovered hoses were old...

Go slow, take your time, be care...

I'm due for a replacement also. Where did you find that bearing. I found it on amazon for $6.35 + $20 shipping. Seems a little over the top on shipping. I have prime, but it didn't show up that way.

Awesome, thanks! I ordered the pulley too. An ounce of prevention and all that.

For those looking to possibly change in the future. Amazon has them now for $6.99. Doesn't hurt to have 1 or 2 on standby by. Easy PM item.
