2007 E63 valve cover replacement

I've just ordered the valve cover for my 07 E63 and this is what MBOEMParts sent me. They said it is the replacement, they don't make the original metal valve cover any more. The replacement is black plastic. I have not tried to put it on yet. I am not sure if it will fit. Has anyone used this replacement?

EPC shows both Aluminum and plastic versions for the M156 engine. The Aluminum part was revised to plastic.

Why wouldn't it fit lol

dustinN 12-15-2018 10:13 AM

I was planning to do only 1 side if I can get the original aluminum cover. Now I have to do both. They look different that why I am not sure about the fitment. In the vehicles fitment section, it shows 2010 & 2011 E63, not 2007 E63. I guess it doesn't matter, they are all M156 engine, right?

I did these on my 07 sedan that I am selling.. they fit just fine.. They have their own bolts and gaskets which should be included with the new valve cover..

Yes they do fit just fine. 1000 miles on mine after install and no leaks

dustinN 12-15-2018 01:24 PM

Thank you.

You are correct, they have their own bolts and gaskets and these look different too. That's why was a bit worry but now I feel more confident. Thank you.

Can you post the picture of yours please? Thanks.

Did yours come with the bolts for spark plugs head cover? The old bolts don't fit in the new valve cover.

dustinN 12-17-2018 11:22 AM

This modified valve cover does not come with the bolts for ignition coils. I called them, they gave me part number 000000-001147 but this part number is for the old bolts. Old bolts won't fit in the new valve cover. I am screwed up!!!

dustinN 12-17-2018 01:02 PM

I brought my car to the dealer, they showed me the same old bolts, 000000-001147, which won't fit. I called MBOEM parts where I ordered and they said part number 000000-001147 is correct for my car. I tried at 4 different auto parts, Home depot, ACE, Lowes .... still no luck. Any suggestions??? I don't know what Racin_fool did to get these fit on his car???

And this was looking so promising :smash: One step forward, two steps back.

hachiroku 12-17-2018 02:14 PM

i replaced both of my metal valve covers with updated plastic ones. fits perfectly...there were a few people on the forums that did have spare metal ones for sale if you wanted to keep them metal. my valve covers came with new bolts, don't recall if they came with coil pack bolts...doesn't look like i have anything on my order sheet for additional bolts that would be used for coil packs.

dustinN 12-17-2018 02:35 PM

hachiroku, so you didn't have any problem with coil bolts? What? Am I the only one having this problem? :-) The part # is 156-016-20-05. What's the part number that you have? I don't know if I can return the valve cover because the gasket was melted and some scratch on the surface when I installed it. Who has the used one for sale?

There's no lining up those holes. I wonder if they used a different coil pack with these plastic valve covers.

hachiroku 12-17-2018 03:46 PM

this is what i ordered and installed...my mechanic said the valve covers came with a set of bolts and he used them. didn't have anything else to report. I asked him if anything was missing or needed he said nope...either was able to reuse bolts or i had them.

Yuille36, there are lining up, I think. The one one with red X is not a hole.

dustinN 12-17-2018 04:01 PM

Thank you everyone for helping me. At this point, I don't know what else I can do.

Yuille36 12-17-2018 04:01 PM

You are right :slap:

dustinN 12-17-2018 04:12 PM

Even if I order the new ignition coils,1569064400, they do not not come with the bolts.

dustinN 12-17-2018 07:02 PM

Hachiroku, where did you buy yours? I might have to buy the same place. I can find an used one. Found one for the driver side, not passenger side. Thanks.

hachiroku 12-17-2018 07:07 PM

genuinemercedesparts.com had the best pricing at the time i ordered. each dealer has different pricing and individual part prices differ so i always check multiple dealers and each part number.

dustinN 12-17-2018 09:52 PM

Genuinemercedesparts.com is saying that valve cover 156-016-20-05 doesn't fit the 2007 E63 AMG. OMG!

Wow that sucks, please let us know if you find a solution. I had a very small crack where a knuckle headed wrench over tightened a bolt. They were able to repair the crack after cleaning with brake cleaner on a rag, then with silicon gasket material. Not really subjected to pressure, and it has stood the test of time. My only other option was used or plastic. Like you it would have been both sides to please me. Good luck.

dustinN 12-18-2018 09:30 AM

My solution for now is to drive with the losing coil packs. If it starts to get backfire, pullover and reinsert the coils :(
