Lead Acid or AGM Battery
Is there anyway to find out if my 2004 E55 came with a traditional lead acid battery or an agm battery? I know some say that all of the w211 E55's came with agm batteries and some say they left the factory with the lead acid batteries. How can I truly find out?

They come with agms bro who sayin lead?
|
Yeah they come with agm batteries and I wouldn't get anything but that. They perform better and last longer too.
|
Yep AGM for AMG is the way to go.
|
Ditto, AGM is all I use.

Best deal right now is probably the Champion H8 AGM battery from Pepboys.com. On sale now for $157.49 and there's a $40 rebate til Jan 27th. Champion is made by JCI which many consider a better manufacturer than Excide which makes the Bosch battery that Pepboys also sells. JCI was also the maker of Varta batteries which is what Mercedes uses as OEM. Don't forget about the aux battery too.

had AAA come give me a jumpstart a while back...they replaced my battery instead. I believe they charged me $153 or $155 total. Would have to locate my receipt. Their batteries are relabeled Interstate batteries. How do Interstate batteries compare?
EDIT: quick search found the answer to my question. Interstate Battery System of America, Inc., a.k.a.Interstate Batteries, is a privately owned company that markets automotive batteries manufactured by Exide Technologies, Johnson Controls and others through independent distributors. |
Did you get an AGM battery or a regular battery? Not all places have the AGM battery.
|
Lead batteries put out toxic fumes, you don't want a lead battery in the vehicle that is toxic. I would add I wouldn't even want a lead battery up front being so close to the cabin filter where air is being drawn into the cabin.

A flooded battery and an AGM battery are both lead acid batteries. Even AGM batteries have a vent tube which you connect to the battery. AGM tends to vent less than regular flooded batteries.

There's a vent tube when it's in the trunk. Not really needed when it's under the hood.

if a decision were to be made, AGM....for the added cost they last a lot longer and take much more of a beating from multiple discharge encounters. batteries tend to recovery differently when fully discharged and AGM's do better at this.

The leading advantages of AGM are a charge that is up to five times faster than the flooded version, and the ability to deep cycle. AGM offers a depth-of-discharge of 80 percent; the flooded, on the other hand, is specified at 50 percent DoD to attain the same cycle life. The negatives are slightly lower specific energy and higher manufacturing costs than the flooded, but cheaper than the gel battery. |
