Throttle Body Upgrage or Not, Please Help

I know there are more then a few posts on this subject. My main hiccup on this is due to the California law being NOW strictly enforced it kinda killed my plans for LT's. I don't want to get busted and then revert back to stock. So here I am now wanting to see, upgrading the throttle body and supercharger snout to 82+mm from the stock 74 we have is it worth it, especially keeping stock headers? I've seen the claims of up to 35-45rwhp. I'm more thinking 10-15 rwhp.

Life Changing Experience

I go with LTH, you only live once! It’s a life changing experience! It’s as quiet as you’re run stock until you WOT. I’ve done 76SCP, 82 TB, 550 injectors, ic pump, HE, &, RaceIQ tunes and was NOT really satisfied.

I’ve read 90mm TB be a better option compared to 82.

Pm me if you’re in the HB area and compare the differences to help you make your decision.

I would drive out there for sure on the weekend. Really need to see how it sounds and get an idea. I live in Tujunga/Sunland area and cops in my city are decent they don't bug with stuff like that. Its only when you drive to Glendale/Pasadena/Burbank were cops will enjoy pulling a loud car over. Right now my car is about 88 DB at about 3500rpms. I only have a muffler delete as we speak for exhaust.

Yeah, PM me to meet up. I'm closer to Seal Beach; was thinking to run up to Sunland or Pasadena for some STAR programming hook ups.

I'm in the same boat. Cali is a ***** when it comes to modifications. The 82 mm throttle body looks promising because 99% of smog technicians will not even notice it but is it worth it? Especially without headers to free up all that incoming air.

This place is a joke.
I gained 25 whp with the 82mm TB. I also have a problem on long highway drives >2hrs where the idle will go lean when I stop. Cycling the key resolves the issue until the next time.

Get headers, put mufflers back on if you're concerned about sound. And it will be a better sound IMO.

25rwhp from a throttle body swap is alot, thats gotta be nice. Have you figured out why you have a problem on long drives?

once i decide on LT’s ill see how it sounds i might go with high flow cats if its too loud and will probably put back the stock mufflers.

this was the exact reason i took mine off sure it was nice an the blower works much better with the bigger Tb but it wasnt nice when the engine went lean an u had to cycle the engine to make it work properly. Also if u didnt have a wideband you wont know it was in lean mode and could blow ur motor easily. Wasnt worth the hassle to me i was told the 90mm is the way to go and theres a place in vegas that will do it and guarentees the results for a good price without the probs. Im really tempted

Throttle body will always be a gamble. A few people have it running flawlessly. Others have had it ruin the driveability of the car and reverted to stock (if they could).

Can you not do mid length with cats? That would get you half the gains at least of some average long tubes. The exhaust manifold flange is the major restriction.

I wasn't too impressed with 82 TB after install to my untrained but dyno. didn't get that grin during test drive like I got from LTH.
