New member - Bought '06 E55!

I lurked a while, then posted this thread https://mbworld.org/forums/w211-amg/...y-not-buy.html ......I ended up snagging the '06 E55 for $9500. Just got her shipped home last night. Ran her to the car wash this morning and can't wait for better weather!! Hate this dang MN crap.

Brake repair light is on (PPI caught this so I knew). Plan on new brakes all around (Zimmerman rotors and Akebono pads). Any reason to second guess this combo?

Also plan to do full oil change and Trans service (conductor plate, sleeves, TCC, filter, gasket, and fluids). Again, any reason not to? (PPI suggested trans service, I just figured do the whole shebang while I'm at it).

Valve cover gaskets (PPI suggestion).

Plan on plugs and wires (any reason to do coils too? pretty spendy).

Also needs driver door handle (keyless doesn't work. Key will lock/unlock, but that button on handle doesn't work. Works on all other handles). Thoughts? Is it just the handle? Actuator?

Motor mounts / Trans mount (leaning towards ECE)…….?

Needs new wheels and tires. So unsure where to even start here. I know I want a slightly lowered look, a little more flush to fenders but not stupid flush. Airmatic still works. Will deal with this in the next few years if needed. Looking for 19' tires with some affordable wheels (currently powder-coated (curb rashed) originals).

Bummed to find out the dynamic seats don't work. Easy way to determine if just the pneumatic pump? Or maybe the lines in the back of the seat? Still learning my way around these......not sure what the main problems are.

I feel like this is a good start BEFORE getting into mods (pulley, tune, BWK, headers, possible e85 conversion, H/E, split cooling, etc).

Thoughts on where I'm headed? Right direction?

Nice ride man, sounds like you have a pretty solid plan

Looks clean.

When it comes to the door handle you have to replace the whole assembly. Plan on about $200 for the handle. It took my friend that works at an indy shop about 10 minutes to swap mine out when it went bad (he's done a lot of them). I'm sure you could do it on your own within 30 minutes if you have no clue what you're doing.

I've never personally run Zimmerman rotors, but Akebono pads are good. Wish they made them for E63.

You can lower the car via STAR or lowering links. Both have been covered a lot on here. I have lowering links on my E63 and have nothing bad to say about them.

Check out carid.com for wheels. They have decent prices and I've been very happy with their customer service. I've ordered a few sets through them and they're a forum sponsor. https://www.carid.com/2006-mercedes-...&submodel=4851

Congrats, looks like a clean car :y

I had Zimmerman rotors and Akebono pads on my C55 and was very happy. The OEM pads are way too dusty for my liking. When it comes time to do brakes on the E55 I will go for the same combo
Trans service and VC gaskets are pretty straight forward and you'll save a ton of money DIYing
I don't have keyless go, but from what I've read the door handles go bad all the time, replacement is as Strigoi stated above
ECE or black series mounts are both good alternatives. Trans mount is easy, motor mounts are a PITA
As for wheels, I personally like the OEM look. SL550 wheels are good if you want to stay 18' (same style as stock E55 wheels but wider and lower offset so more flush). My favorites are the 19' CLS55 five spokes and the SL65 multi-piece wheels. Their offsets are even lower, but it's perfect for the w211 IMO
I'm glad I don't have dynamic seats :D

Sounds like you have a solid plan, congratulations on the car. Don't bother with coils. Yep good idea to do all normal maintenance. I automatically assume it hasn't been done no matter what sellers say. Zimmermann are a solid choice as are the pads. Get genuine Mercedes valve cover gaskets, there was an issue with some aftermarket brands not sealing properly.

Nice color and congrats on your purchase! I just replaced my seat pump with a use one and dynamic seat working good for $50, I had to fix one of the air tube (green) in the back of driver seat cause the valve broken off.

Congrats. Great find.

We bought ours back in July. Seat wasn't working. Shop the completed PPI quote estimated $800 to fix.

Once home, took apart the left side of the trunk liner. Found wire harness loose.. Easy fix. You may want to check there first.

If you plan to diy, recommend you get STAR first. Very helpful when troubleshooting. Got ours from Shardul.

Keep us posted on your progress.

Get a STAR clone if you plan on doing any of your work yourself. I have a 06" E55 as well and STAR has saved my ass many times!

Oh and get those dynamic seats working. Thought they were gimmicky when I got mine but they are actually pretty good/useful imo

Doing kind of an extensive trans service eventually (fluids, filter, TCC damper valve, overlap sleeves, and conductor plate, etc.).

Any reason to upgrade solenoids to BLUE TOP? Trying to read up on them as much as possible but always best to get it straight from someone that has done and had good/bad experience.
