AMG E53 Coupe No V8?
I have a C63 Coupe coming off lease this fall.
Looking around for my next new wheels the dealer show me the new AMG E53 Coupe,
What a disappointment to drive.
Why did AMG-MB under power this beautiful new coupe. The the 63 bi turbo V8 the AMG Sedan is not available.
Instead some new inline 6 cylinder with a battery boost system jerry-rig for turbo boost lag.
Ridiculous !!!
Even with the Sport exhaust option, sounds nothing like the 63 V8.
Swing and a miss here !

Well C63 coupe is a fabulous car !
I went to the AMG Driving School at Road Atlanta and drove the new E63S sedan last year.
Great power, but I am a coupe guy and would consider the E Coupe for something little larger.
Again, I do not understand AMG not offering the V8 in the E Coupe. You can the 63 V8
get it in the C and the S Coupes why not the E? BMW has V 8 in there 6 series.
AMG is about performance - this motor option falls way short !

I think is was do to MB having so many coupes to choose from. Why add another one to the list. Look at their lineup today, they have like 30 different models, in various configurations.

I always thought the biturbo V8 E550 coupe was a very nice car but obviously not an AMG. I guess C-class coupe it is. Either the W204 or W205 C63 must be fantastic cars.

My current car is a 2017 C63 Coupe coming off lease in Oct.
Kicking tire as to what next and drove the AMG E53 Coupe as an option.

The 53 series cars are the replacement for the 43 series cars, I believe. I think they are going to start phasing out all their V6 engines in favor of the inline 6 hybrid setup in the E53.
The problem, like with the 43 cars, is that they've diluted the AMG brand. It was weird enough that in the S, CL, or SL cars you always had a choice between V8 and V12 AMG models. But the point of AMG is that you're getting the absolute top-shelf halo model of that chassis and it simply isn't true anymore.
Oh, and AMG didn't build anything in the 43/53 cars, it's just MB using AMG designs/upgrades. The 63 cars still have engines hand-built by AMG. I know, there are lots of people who disagree with me, but I'm old school and think they should stop monkeying with the AMG badge

16 E550 Cab, 2003 Ram bright red crewcab 4x4 we call Clifford :)
So disappointing... E53 AMG Cab specs....
That's it ?
The 2016 E550 Cab is rated as 402hp which we know is underrated, more like 435.. torque at 443.... how can you call that an AMG ? I've done a 4.5 0-60 on a brisk morning...
Was so looking forward to the new interior dash....
Guess we are keeping it...
I keep getting calls and e-mails to upgrade..... doesn't seem like an upgrade to me...
Again very disappointing...
Mike
EDIT - car and driver road test put the E550 Cab at 4.4 to 60.........
2019
AMG E 53 Cabriolet
- Acceleration4.4 sec
- Power429 hp
- Torque384 lb-ft

What we need to do is stop calling these 43 and 53 AMG's, because there purely not in the sense of the word. Their just enhanced by AMG.
If you walk like a duck, quack like a duck, then your a duck period. Mercedes-AMG is just trying to capitalize on the brand, by offering those less funded the opportunity to experience, some of what AMG has to offer.
Hoping that a perspective 43/53 buyer gets bitten by the AMG bug, and wants more thereby purchasing a 63. Also they want to cater to younger buyers with the CLA45, etc.
AMG isn't what it once was, in my opinion. Branding everything with a AMG badge isn't the way to go.
