oh crap...

Kind of on topic, does anyone have a general range of sizes/offsets that should fit the E55 with no rubbing or modifications?

I presume 18 or 19 x 8.5/9.5 fits fine? Somewhere around 30-50 offset usually work ok?

AMG__POWER 03-18-2019 12:05 PM

I have 19x8.5 front et25 245 35 19
19x10 rear et28 285 30 19
no rubbing issues and in lowered with star and washers...

Anything lower than around 30 offset will be pretty flush, and will rub depending on how low you are. I have the same set up as AMG_POWER, but 275 rears. I rub in the rear sometimes but I think my car is lower. Some guys can squeeze a 305 tire in the back, but with an offset of around 40-45 I think. So yeah I think you'll be pretty safe with the 30-50 offset, keeping the widths at 8.5/9.5 or 8.5/10

Thanks for that. I got a pretty horrendous quote to repaint my wheels so it might be more economical to look at new ones.

How much, if you don't mind me asking? I have a set of the 65 wheels in chrome that I want to refinish in the two tone titanium/silver, but I've been told chrome is a pain to remove...

No problem, NZ$1200 incl tax which is around US$800-850. I don't have any curbing, the paint is just starting to flake off in small chunks from various parts of the wheels. I like the stock ones but I can get some brand new light weight TSW 18" for NZ$2000 or less so I am wondering why I bother fixing them.

Yeah I wouldn't bother refinishing the stock wheels, it'd probably be cheaper to by another used set off someone. I was expecting to pay that much or even a bit more to have mine redone, especially since they're 2 piece and chrome. I'm thinking they might be worth refinishing since they're harder to find :nix:

Yep if they are really nice wheels it might be worth it otherwise makes sense for an upgrade, add lightness. I will just get new tires this time round, might try the ps4's. No point getting new wheels until I replace the dusty stock pads but both pads and rotors have heaps of life left so stock wheels for me for another year or two I guess. Then maybe tsw nurburgring, geneva or interlagos.

All good choices. I'm in the same situation, I'll keep my CLS55 wheels until I replace the stock pads with Akebonos, the five spokes are way easier to clean :rolf:

Absolutely and I am not the sort of person to roll the car forward 2 inches to clean the brown stripes from the brake calipers each time.
