To sell or not to sell...
I have an 05 E55 wagon which I'm completely conflicted with. I bought it in 06 with 10k on it for $70k. I've put that in it again upgrading and modding it over the years and it now has144k. It still runs well and is very quick but is showing age both cosmetically and in the repairs that I've been doing. It's been a kind of love/hate relationship these last few years and this has been exacerbated by my need for the new E63 which I'm going to get regardless of what happens to my 05.
I'm conflicted because this car seems to be really desirable and is holding value due to how rare it is. The idea of still owning the car in 10 or even 20 years seems crazy but not out of the question. I would have to dump some more money into it to make it perfect again, probably put it back to stock (I have all the bits) and find a place to store it.
To those e55 wagon owners - What are your long term plans? When will it be a classic? My mileage is high, will it matter in 10 years?

E55 has third row seating...anything newer no longer did in an AMG model.
if you need the money go for it. repairs can be pricey but you don't have the engine tid bits that the E63 W211 came with. love my audi wagon and couldn't live without it. I literally haul anything with it. me personally for the W211 AMG...i'm 50/50 of if i would want or not want a wagon. 3rd row seating definitely a selling point for it even to be 50/50.
if you do sell it...you'll probably get a good number due to its rarity. good luck with your decision either way.

There are 2 with similar miles, all stock, having trouble getting into the high teens right now. One is black on black in Atlanta for $19k and hasn't sold in 22 days. https://atlanta.craigslist.org/atl/c...840730185.html
Mine? Keeping it. I have neither the funds nor the desire to sink $130k into a new wagon, as I got mine for a steal and it's 100% what I wanted. I won't get enough for it to justify selling it for a LONG time.
If you sell, you won't get as much as you're thinking. There's a pretty decent likelihood that any 55 wagon will fetch better money in 10 years, but do you want to sit on it that long? It's really up to you if you want to bother with storing/maintaining it or just cut your losses now. Keep it? Or give another dreamer a chance at owning one of the ultimate wagons.

I think we are thinking about cars like the air cooled Porsches and MKIV Toyota Supra when we think about the car selling for a lot more down the road. In my opinion those cars had or developed a cult like following to see the increase in price. So the question is does the E55 have or can develop a cult like following? I'm not sure, but it is a hell of a car that is built solid.

If you sell it you WILL regret it, and probably pretty quickly. It’s a unicorn that is quickly approaching classic status. Besides, it is only going to get more valuable.
Make it perfect and turn it into a garage queen.

Thank you to all that responded. I'm leaning towards keeping it in some long term storage somewhere and slowly bringing her back to former glory. I went over the car and couldn't find any rust which is pretty amazing considering she's 14 years old and I'm in New England. Which areas on these cars are most likely to show the first signs of rust?
