Do NOT remove from the resonator back as a cheap mod...
So I’ve been toying with the idea of some exhaust mods just for fun and so I unclamped the resonators back and figured I would see how loud it was. WAY louder than I expected, and not in a good way. At lower RPM it feels like the whole car is going to vibrate itself to death, mid range sounds like a pick up truck, and higher is OK. I didn’t expect it to sound so terrible. I think I’m going to gut the mufflers prior to reinstallation after hearing a few of y’all do that. It’s not much more noise but a bit better.

I'd question anyone thinking that pulling the resonators and mufflers would make an E55 sound good.
I removed the resonators on my E63 and kept the stock mufflers. Couldn't be happier with the sound. Sounds good and loud enough without being too loud.

63 cars have always sounded better, though. 55k cars are insanely muffled imo, I was just curious how big of a difference it would be. I guess a lot of guys keep stock mufflers but delete secondary cats and resonators.

That's the most popular choice. Next step up is getting C63 or CLS55/63 mufflers. Pair that with some headers and it'll sound amazing. IMO muffler deletes sound terrible for most cars, ours included

These 55's do not have mufflers. The bulk of the noise suppression is by the cats. The 4 rear cans found on these cars are resonators only. They have next to zero back pressure and certainly improve the sound so why remove them?

The E55 mufflers do a great job of quieting. I had initially removed my resonator and rear cats and replaced with an X pipe, keeping the mufflers in place, and noticed a VERY slight improvement in sound. Honestly not worth the cost of having the muffler shop do that work.
Then I switched mufflers to the C63....damn, now it sounds like a proper performance car. It's not loud, especially when cruising you barely notice, but give it gas and the sound is perfect. Still quieter than most other cars I've owned including our Jeep SRT8, but it's still an E class and I like the two-faced nature of it now.

I am considering this for my M157 with straight pipes. Do you have any video of yours?

For my 2021 E63s, the Renntech exhaust module made my car maybe 10% louder. Attached is a video. From what I gather, it makes a much bigger difference on the pre facelift cars.
If the OPF filter is to blame for the quietness of the 2021 facelift, I wonder if the right move would be to install a pre face lift muffler? Not sure if the two have differences other than the muffler though. Also don’t know if it would throw codes.
As for the blowoff valve, I attached a video. Lol, the blowoff valve was just for fun. Obviously not for performance. Just wanted a little more engagement as it’s basically a weekend car to putt around town running errands.
