2013 E550 coupe
questions on the e550
Hi guys,
I'm getting my hands on a 2013 E550 coupe... are they good cars?? reliable too??
I know nothing about mercedes... but I want to give it a shot cause they are way to fun to drive.
Just looking to see if they have common issues... engine and/or transmission problems... or any other expensive failures...
the car has about 100k km on it (about 60k miles) looks good and everything..
thank you!!

- has the transmission service been done? If not, you're supposed to get it done at 70K miles on 2013 E550.
- start the car when cold (it must be cold) and listen for a chain rattle. M278 had issues with chain tensioner and MB has a service bulletin to get it repaired. I took mine to the dealership and mentioned the TSB LI05.1o-P-056435. They replaced the chain tensioner and installed check valves into cylinder heads. If the issue has been present for a long time then it may potentially damage the tensioners and engine. Some good discussion here https://mbworld.org/forums/e-class-w...ncl-vid-2.html
- I wouldn't buy it if it was heavily tuned.
Other than that, check for air suspension issues (if has that option). I'd also order pre-purchase inspection from a good independent shop — dealers usually rush through it and don't do a great job.
