2005 E55 Weird Issues

Bought a 2005 E55 with 88000km on it. It starts and idles fine. No check engine lights. When reving it up in park, it gets a weird vibration. That's my first issue. The second issue is when idle and reving in park odd noise like some motor turning like an alternator. Is it a bad pulley bearing?

Check motor mounts. A collapsed motor mount will transfer a lot of strange noises and feelings into the cabin.

So I finally got the car. Started it up and the loud noise is the oil pump. Its a bit louder than most 55's but nothing to worry about.
On the way home, I blew the radiator or should I say, they hid the blown radiator with some epoxy and it split when we were coming home on our 1200km trek back. Radiator place had one in stock ; believe or not and had the local MB dealer install it and got us on our way. We also noticed that the gas gauge wasn't working and the car had a hard time starting. It took 3 tries to get it going. Got it inspected and had to complete the following work to it:

-All new brakes and rotors
-All new front suspension pieces. Upper and lower control arms, bushing galore. And a wheel alignment
-Fuel pump and sending units both needed to be replaced
-Brake fluid change
The above cost me $9600.00

Now after doing the transmission service, the trans goes into limp mode because it needs a speed sensor changed. Its going in for that tomorrow..

What I have left to do is:

-The E63 front bumper is actually fiberglass and beat up. I want the a new Suvneer bumper plus paint - $1800
-All the piano finish on the exterior is stained. I can't clean it up. I tried polishing it, brake clean etc... Unless someone knows how to refinish it, I need to replace them all for $1200. Maybe get some 3000grit sand paper and try that?
-Rear strut is leaking - $2000

After that, it should be good to go.

Perspective buyers don't know that AMG stands for "All Money Gone" Most people purchase these cars on the cheap, thinking that they got a bargain, then quickly discover that maintenance is anything but cheap.
There is a reason why people sell these older cars, because maintenance costs tend to skyrocket out of control. I'm sorry that your E55 has cost you thousands already and will cost you more in the future.
But once all the maintenance issues are rectified, you'll have a sweet ride on your hands.

Trust me. I know first hand. I probably had the most expensive AMG to maintain years ago; 2005 CL65. The E55 wagon never came to Canada. I bought it out of Japan. It was a great deal plus it only had 88000km (54000 miles) on it; so basically never used. Once I fix these final issues, I'll have a great car. Tell me where can you get a car like this that looks this good and performs amazing for under 30k these days? You can't.

My cousin in law owns his own Mercedes repair shop. That's where I go to get things repaired. Definitely saving some money there.

Let me know if you solve the vibration in park. I recently picked up an 03 E55, which had an assortment of issues (CSB bearing and flex discs, bad torque converter etc). I've fixed that all now, but have the vibration in park you describe still. Thinking motor mounts as well.

I have to sort out my WOT issues first though.

Yes. The shop is recommending motor mounts as well. That will be a project for next year.

Yeps indeed, replace all 3 of them (2x motor mounts + 1x transmission mount). Its doable to swap them out at home

Agree...Motor mounts and trans mount should be done together. I like CLK black series mounts. Search the forum

When I had the E-55 I quickly got to where I could do all three mounts in under an hour.

The S-65 was worse... took 1-1/2 hours first time.

Unplug the the wire to the steering rack... drop the rack... let it hang on the hoses. Now you have lots of room to sneak the mounts out.

This IS a job to do on a hoist. Having a pair of screw jacks helps. Support the engine with a screw jack. Raise it up.. short section of 2X4 on the end of the screw jack for the ‘lump’ at the front of the oil pan.

Worst part art of the job being the fasteners on top of the mounts. Seems like passenger side was worst. Drivers side I got with a wobbly and an Allen with a long extension from the top.

OP for your efforts you will have an amazing wagon. Congratulations

I have a update on my car. Replaced the engine and trans mounts. The car is smooth as silk. As far as the noice in the engine, turns out it was the AC compressor. Replaced it and nice and quiet now. Also replaced the o rings on the oil cooler and filter housing and valve cover gaskets.
