non supercharged engine making OVER 600hp! E63 would be nice of course they'd have to say its only 525 in the E.

You know what this means... now AMG goes as high priced as Ferraris.

This is very doubtful. 600bhp from a 6.3 V8 N/A is something even BMW M couldn't produce.

If the engine does stay N/A, then we are looking at 500-550bhp. If its gets turbocharged, which is the more likely direction if power is to increase, then 600bhp may be possible.

if it were turbo charged they could get 2,000 hp if they wanted. there are a 1000 different mods a corp with bottomless pockets can do if they want. bmw could have got more but you dont build 10 levels above your competition just a little. ie the c6 corvette comes out before the z06. the new m5 has a bit more n/a power. so it seems logical for mb to do what c&d says they're going to do. just my opinion

Isin't the new M5 engine a 5.0L with 100 hp/L? The Honda S2000 is a 2.0L and has 240 hp or 120 hp/L so why can't Mercedes make an engine with 95.2 hp/L? They make much more than that on their race cars as does pretty much every racing team that runs a NA engine. Do you think that the engineers at BMW are somehow more adept at building an engine? Hogwash!!!!!

I'm not doubting Mercedes's ability. But MB engines have always favoured low end torque rather than top end HP. Now I know that is due to their simple engine architecture, but 95.2Hp/L from a Mercedes 6.3 V8, N/A, I'd love to see that.

Actually come to think of it the new generation MB motors pump out about 78 bhp/liter and older AMG variants on the 3 valve per cylinder engines pumped out ~20% more power than the standard MB engines.

Dont see why MB couldn't pump out 95 bhp/liter while still keeping the torque curve like the new 350 series engines.

Here's another C and D article:

http://www.caranddriver.com/article....rticle_id=8421

"Not too long after the standard models are launched, expect a more powerful, naturally aspirated, 6.3-liter V-8 AMG version with at least 500 horsepower, as well as a 6.0-liter twin-turbo V-12 with over 600 horsepower"

They're referring to the new 63 models and the 65's. The 65's are the ones with over 600bhp, the 63's could have anything from 500-550bhp

I reckon it's possible, BMW M did manage to make an extra 107hp out of the last model M5 which had 5L as well!

the Ford Shelby concept had 604bhp with a 6.4L V10, I can Benz can do it, just wether or not they will

Ot course MB can do it. 95 hp/litre is quite easy. But the understanding of how an engine works means it will have to be a revver. There is no other way to get close to 100hp/litre normally aspirated other than high revs. And is that what MB want to sell to the public? It isn't their strategy to sacrifice low-down torque & their customer base wouldn't want that.

nov 04, by the way if tq is an equation that equals hp in somw way, pushrod motors make more tq than ohc's make. i dont even know are mb's oh? dont kill if thats a stupid ? anyway to take this to the extreme nascar engines make monster power and tq with restrictor plates and carbs and arent screamers like f1 cars. who knows, love to see it though

Not when you have a larger displacement engine. Here is the dyno of a 6.5L naturally aspirated Porsche 928 motor. It made 549 RWHP or around 625+ crank hp at less than 6200 rpm. http://www.devek.net/index.php?page=nfo_cars_whitecar Making horsepower is really about making the engine more efficient. Just think what Mercedes can do with their budget? These guys drive this 928 to and from open road races where they hit speeds above 200 mph; in fact, it's the only car in their class that drives to and from the events.

u guys are missing something

Think about it like this. Mercedes overbuilds every engine whereas BMW maxes the hell out of them. Thats why you hear of them blowing and starving and burning oil so quickly.

Think about it like this. the M3 engine is a 3.2L engine. Same displacement as the 3.2L 3 valve mercedes. Mercedes pumps out an earth shattering 215hp will BMW manages to squeeze 333 out of the M3 at 8000RPM, teamed with agressive gearing, make an extremely fast car.

Yet, at a nearly 11:1 compression ratio, as put by evosport the engine is at its engineering limit. Thats all good, but how many M3's do you see lasting past 100K miles?

All I can say is, maybe mercedes can do it better than BMW and I hope they do cause BMW owners, especially those M3 ones are the ****iest mother fu**ers out there. Nevertheless, Im jealous of them.

Basically, if acura and infiniti can pull 300hp out of a v6 3.5L in size, theres absolutely NO reason that Mercedes couldn't do 5 valves a cylinder like audi and get 650-700 out of a 6.3 block. Furthermore, they gotta do something to silence these BMW people about the handling issue.
