e63 Motor Mount Replacement
Hello, ive been looking through the forums for a couple of days trying to find out if anyone has done a diy of the motor mounts on their m156 but ive yet to run into any luck aside from people just saying its a pita, does anyone know how to? if possible id like to avoid removing the exhaust from the manifold as i just replaced the flex discs and had to deal with the removal of the exhaust and the install of it and i cannot stress how dreadful that was. i hope someone can help. i already have corteco brand mounts and am waiting on the 16mm wrench that is needed for the procedure. TIA

WIS (factory work instructions) is worth investing in if you're working on these cars yourself.
I bought one from eManualOnline (downloadable VM) for ~$50 with a promo code.
Attached is the main instruction guide, and there are also supporting guides you can pull up too if needed.
Regarding the exhaust manifolds, removing them is called for in the factory procedure, but here is a DIY where someone got around that by unbolting and lowering the steering rack instead.

Is the procedure the same across all w211 platforms? I’d imagine there’s a difference in the size of the engine bay because of the different engines between the m113k and the m156. I’m not too worried about the underside of the car I’d imagine that’s a lot closer.

Don't know, but will probably be very comparable for the V8 powered cars
First time I lifted the engine by using a jack with wood as support, last time I used a engine brace (the big metal bar which hangs over the engine)

When I did mine, I used the specific ratchet tool needed in order to remove the Top Bolt of the Engine Mount. Essentially it is an extended ratchet you would then use with extensions from underneath the car attached to your ratchet whereby you actually “tighten (turn clockwise)” to loosen the bolt. Don’t loosen both at the same time! Do one side then the other! The bottom bolt is straightforward enough. However before you raise one or the other side of the Engine with a Bottle Jack (supported from underneath with blocks of wood) you must first disconnect the exhaust pipes bracket on both sides of the Tranny, then disco passenger side exhaust by loosening the Exhaust Clamp Collar and loosen Driver side where it attaches to the Resonator before you raise either side of the Engine. Once the Engine is raised with the Bottle Jack ( you only need to raise it an inch or so), you’ll notice the Heatshields above each Mount are basically fitted in place via a little slot the Shield is positioned over and clamped in place once the weight of the engine keeps it in place. Simply remove the shield and the mount is easily removed, swap the New one in, pop the heat shield in place (might require some tape to keep it in position depending on its condition) then lower the Jack and reposition it to do the other side.
I used some Heat Shield I had left over from applying same to the bottom side of my Intake Manifold and stuck it to the Top Side of each Mount in an effort of prolonging the life of those Mounts!
