2002 996 Tt Vs 2005 E55

Saturday AM on PCH in front of the Frog House in Newport Beach heading North. I got lined up with a newer 996 TT light went green and I let the old man go first.( I hate being the a-hole that takes off even thow the other guy is not racing) As I hear his turbo come on in first gear and see him start to pull out. (I think it was a Tiptronic) I then hit it slowly until floored but traction control still kicked in. He got a bumper on me from 1st gear to mid way 2nd gear then we came to the next light. I am sure I can beat these cars now if a heads up race in staight 1/4- 1 mile runs. I turned traction control off so I could show the guy something he can't do in his car. Light turns green and I smoke the tires through first gear laying it slightly sidways. Great burn out and show for all that were there. We came up on traffic so we went our own ways.

Drag tires would have been the ticket. I could have let him leave at the light then hit it and catch the 996 at top of E55 first gear. The 4 wheel drive is no advantage in the striaghts when they are only 400hp and we are 470+ with drag tires.

I do run the drags on the E55 My new one has 1700 miles on it now. and I just put them on. I do not run them on the GS400. That is a waste. They new tire on it, GS400 will not burn out. NO HP or TQ. I use the Yokahama AVS sports for that car, Those are the best for it.

not sure if your view is really representative, a 996 tt will do 0-100 in c9 sec, the e60 M5 c 9.8sec - all media tests put the e55 slower than the e60 so not sure if what you are quoting is representative.

Also, power to weight and torque to weight of the 996 is significantly better - think you might be racing a grandad!

You list the E55 slower than 9.8 secs. - 0-100mph
Hmm-m-m-m- Every report I have ever read has the 0-100 anywhere between 8.9 & 9.4 secs. The 9.4 secs is the slowest I have ever seen by all the test magazines and that alone makes it faster than the M5.

Whatever keys I grab first...
E55 slower than M5? Might wan't to put the beer down for a minute, and look at the times, Kens is right, the lowest I have seen it is 9.4, I have even seen 8.5. I think thats faster than a Lamborghini Murcielago. Nice race anyways.

I had no problem 3 times in a row on street tires taking care of an 04 911 TT X50. It had a 6 speed and was driven by a competent driver. He could not believe it. The cars are more evenly matched than the mags say. Traction control, automatic tranny and more HP equalize these two great cars.

Like I said I let the old man hit it then I rolled on the gas to match him I know for a fact that with drag tire and no mercy 2005 E55 will spank it time and time again.

I think this one would be close, owning a 996tt that is heavily modified and used to be an x50 I would put my money on an X50.

Having had a 01 996TT with Evo Stage 2 (just above the X50), I would agree with you 100%.

Funny thing is that we are comparing a car legend "Porsche Turbo" to a 4 door sedan. More I think about it, the more I realize how AWESOME our family 4 door is
