W212 new E63 AMG problems
I got my E63 AMG on Tuesday (9-Mar-10). When I first got into the car, it has already run around 75 km. After 3 days driving I found that there might be a bit problems with the engine/transmissions.
1. Everytime when I stop the car and start off again (Red lights/Give away signs). The engine speed from 0 - 2000 rpm feels very jerky. Like it's not going to the higher rpm smoothly, feels like something stuck within that rpm range.
2. Now the car has run 200 kms. Again when I stop the car at idle engine speed. I felt the engine started shaking by itself for around 3-4 seconds sometimes. It's like a kind of knocking inside the engine.
I just got the car for a few days and I have not rev the engine higher than 4500 rpm as the break-in instructions said. I used the Sport mode for a couple of times and tried the manual mode once to see how the gearbox performs. But still, when I was in Sport or Manual mode I kept my eyes on the meter and I am sure the engine speed didn't go higher then 4500 rpm when kicking down to lower gears.
By the way I live in Macau S.A.R. (a country in China next to Hong Kong with lots of casinos) and we only use 98 RONS petrol. Would that cause problems?
Are those normal? Or am I just being too worried?
Please reply, comments from all of you are very valuable to me.
Many Thanks,
David

I also got the jerking when slowing down & accelerating at low rpm(in both s and c mode) but it gets a lot better after 1000km of driving. Or maybe i'm used to it. However I'v never had the engine shaking. What kind of shaking does it feel like?

12 E63 matte white
Mine does the same thing! It does get smoother as i have 5k mi.
I've called the dealer and they have no software upgrade as of now.
I notice it happens worst when in heavy stop n go traffic.

You guys might want to check on the SL forums and on the AMG PL. The MCT did have issues like you're describing early on. There were a lot of TSBs out and it was assumed the issues were so far addressed. But there's one guy on the PL who lemon'ed his SL due to the MCT recently.
MB knows about with the MCT and the 63s. I'm sure that they're working on it. It's kind of like the early 7G Tronics. I don't think the issues appear all the time and in all cars. But it's definitely something not quite right.

I have a new E63 with 1,500 miles on it so far. same issue with the jerky feeling at initial roll, but once over 2k rpm it disappears. I didn't really think much of it, since I assumed this was due to the new 7G gearbox tailored to give a sportier, F1 like feeling.
FYI, the current gen M5 has the same if not worse jerky feeling at slow speeds.
Ultimately, you get used to it, and you learn that you shouldn't drive at slow speeds

The MCT has some similar issues as folks here are noticing with the E63. I'm sure MB will get it sorted out and come up soon with an improved version. (BMW has had issues with the DCT, too.) So far out of all them, PDK seems to be the winner.
p.s., here's just one thread of many about the known issues with MB's MCT transmission: https://mbworld.org/forums/sl55-amg-...-2010-e63.html

I picked up my E63 a few months ago and also feel the jerky transmission below 2000 rpm. Its been to the dealer twice and they reset the transmission but the roughness is still there. A report has been made to MB in Germany and am waiting a response from them. My car has 1300kms now and it still feels the same below 2000 rpm..after that its a rocket !! Especially the bliping in sport and sport + modes !!

The one E63 I test drove did seem a bit jerky from initial acceleration but I put it down to the MCT gearbox.
As for the engine shaking, you might have got some bad fuel or the 98ron is not really 98ron. Similar engine shake happened to me for a few days at idle after I had tanked up but when I went to another station and put in some V-power it seemed to go away.
Try using another reputable petrol station. Do you have Shell V power or any equivalent in your country? If yes, try a tank of that for a comparison.

I test drove a E63 last weekend. Same issue that everybody mentioned above. I was aware of this issue based on the SL threads. It is better in C mode, but in S mode, it is very evident. The car lurches forward as you come to a stop. I am currently in a CLS63 and absolutely hate the transmission. It is always looking at getting out of 1st gear asap because too much torque of the engine. My car hestitates for 1 second before going when I step on the accelarator every time. I loved my E55Kompressor with the 5 speed. I thought I would give the E63 one chance, but after driving it, it is not smooth. Race car-ish, yes, a car with 2 personalities(luxury and sports car), no. Its just like the M5, you can't really say that is a luxury car. It is a absolute sports car with 4 doors. This E63 took a few steps closer to the M5.
Great handling, but a bit too harsh even in Comfort settings.
In regards to the transmission, I am not sure there is anything they can do about it. They had 2 years to fix the SL and it looks like the E has the same issue. Sorry.

Yo bro u from Macau? i m from ZhuHai...
anyway, our C63 does a little engine shake for us during idle. its seems bit normal for the V8s... but Jerk from MCT? isnt the MCT suppose to be super smooth?

I just put the first 1000 miles on the car and I had the same shudder in first gear. It does get better with more miles, but still a bit noticeable. However, I have owned many manual cars (M3, M5) with ZF transmission and when those at in first gear they are also not exactly smooth at slow speeds in first gear.

fwiw, the E60 M5 has the SMG tranny which we all know is a PITA esp in daily traffic. The F10 M5 will now have DCT. The SMG was a mistake and we won't be seeing it again.
