Snow tire fitment question

I am looking to buy some Nokian tires for my 63. Would I be able to put 245s on the rear? The tires I am looking at would be 245/45R19 all the way around. The next size up would be 255/40R19 but is it a good idea to run staggered for snows?

See the last two posts. Probably would keep the same widths front and back if you are going with winter tires. Don't know what the staggered configuration is going to get you esp when the widths are only 10mm apart. Generally for winter tires, lower tread width is better for traction on snow.

Narrower is better for snow, a wider tire will plow and push the snow and eventually "float" on the snow (like a snow shoe) as where a narrower tire will slice through the snow and actually generate more traction than a wider tire. This will be very noticable especially while braking and turning. I know it sounds backwards but trust me, 25 years of driving in Chicago and midwest winters has taught me a thing or two.

The recommended width from the manual is 255 all around.
I just installed mine today without issue...other than the car feels bouncy after snow tires

Does anyone think I will have a problem putting 255/40/R19 all around instead of 255/35/R19 all around like the manual suggests? Nokian only makes tires in the first size.

Anyone? The guy at the tire shop said they wouldn't fit because our rears are 10.5" but the manual suggests that size for my 19" rims.

the rears are 9.5. If he is telling you they are 10.5 he's either mistaken or lying....

for snow, you want the narrowest tire possible.

that said, for those of us who have to drive on non-snow packed roads, a bit narrower than stock is a good compromise.

cant see why not. its kinda confusing the answer he gave you though. from a width perspective it should be fine. Others on here have 255's all round so i'm not sure why he's telling you 10.5 vs 9.5.as a reason for not fitting. you are going up in diameter tho but its marginal. thats my opinion

They fit. I've been using them for a week already with no issues.
