What tires are people using?

Hey, i just ordered an e63 an am proud to say it is my first car of this level of performance and sophistication. My question is how often do you e63 guys change your tires, and what tires do you use? Please let me know how aggressively you drive/how often you change your tires and what tires you all use.

Thanks,
Josh

On my W211, I've used Hankooks and Contis. On changing, depends on the tire brand and usage, no standard rules on when to change.
w212 has pirellis.

Is there any info you could give me on average for how many miles your pirellis last?

thanks

W212 come with contis. 10-15 k is what I hear depending on how hard and how often you launch from a dig.

Just curious, this is my first car that does not have the same tire width front/back so cannot be fully rotated and the tires will be much softer than i am used to so i am interested in what to expect, thats all.

The contis are no softer than any other summer tire, i actually dont think they are that soft. If you drive hard and launch more often than not, expect 10k per set, no more. If you're civil, then you might stretch to 20, but they'll be damn near bald by then

I am from Bay area (Fremont), too. My 2010 E63 came with 19 inch Pirellis. It has pretty soft compound. I drove quite aggressively for the first 8-10k. The rear set was completely bald on inside around mid 6k. The front set last until 12k.

I like the Pirellis set but 6k is a bit hard to accept. I now changed to Bridgestone Potenza S-04 Pole Position. It may not grip the road as well as the Pirellis but does perform well enough for my liking. The way I see the wear, it should last 10k on rear I think.

Congratulation on your new purchase. You gonna like the handling of W212!!......but I am not sure if your passenger will like it or not....... The sound of N/A engine is super; however, I do wish it has the torque curve that your TT engine has......

Out of my curiosity, did you order it with performance package?

Mitch

I'm currently on my 5th set of tires @ 15k miles.
Went through a set of OEM Pzeros, Flaken RT-625, 2sets of Hankooks, and currently on Michellin Pilot Super Sports.

I can safely say the Michellins are the best tires I have put on the car so far.
The Hankooks are definitely the best "bang for the buck" tire.

Do you burn out at every light?

Glad you live on the opposite coast from my kids!

So for starters, this will be an extremely off topic question but i want to ask before i forget. Because it has a wet startup clutch, does the car inch forward at a light without your foot on the brake? Anyway, yes it has perf package and is loaded aside from rear seat entertainment. I am looking forward to finally owning a well balanced car in terms of having handling, power and luxury.

AMG, can you comment on how much the michellin pilot super sports tires are and why they are superior in you opinion? thanks

The car does inch forward like all auto-shift car. I had mine fully loaded but without PP because the suspension is a bit too firm while driving around Bay area. The road condition just really bad in city.

However, the TT version would not be fun without PP's additional torque...........good that you have the luxury enjoying that......

I will be sure to comment on how bearable the PP suspension is after i recieive the vehicle in January. I already know it will be too stiff for me but it has its upsides and im sure i can deal with it.
