Might be more carry over than it sounds since both the same displacement and change is from twin to single turbo. Of course also brings the power output closer to a non PP E63 so wonder if that too gets a boost in power. I hope they finally increase the power of the Bluetec, that thing was a huge disappointment for me.

Didn't the twin turbo just come out? I am def surprised so soon. Those numbers will dominate the competition. With 435hp and 516lb/ft!!! that trounces the upcoming Audi S6/S7.. Mercedes isn't messing around.

Anyone have any idea on when this "refresh" might hit the US?

I think 2012 was the first year for the twin turbo in a E550. I would be curious to know why go from a twin to single but guessing the real reason will never publicly be known.

FF. W212 E63 M156 non-pano 18" P2 ParkT NightV (gone but will be missed).
I like the current angular shapes and lines. However, I wonder if the new shape will drop the already low Cd (coefficient of drag) even more...highly doubt that.

Losing the quad headlamps will be unfortunate since that is what distinguishes it from all other classes.

What was wrong with the old design? The aggressive look is what got me in buying a Mercedes over a BMW 5-series or Audi A6. Are they trying to make it look like an old man's car like the W211, which was a elegant but rather boring design than the W212. I can see the new gadgets and boost in HP as a selling point but I don't see how the new design would help sales. Well, I guess this makes my W212 much rarer on the streets.

Most likely late 2012 early 2013 so if you want to wait guess worth it, but I hate getting any revised car until all bugs worked out and thankfully for E63 owners engine staying the same.

True, but but it could also be an endless cycle of waiting too. After all the engine in the 2012 E63 is new to that year, so if someone were to wait for the 2013 to wait for the kinks to work out now they would see a car with other stuff added that they might want to wait for the kinks to work out of With that said though, until definite information is released who is to say the 2013 E63 may not have some changes too in the engine department. Sometimes one thing is said initially then something completely different actually happens.

Good Point and quite possibly package revisions with E63. My deal is really good so no desire to hold out. In the end you can wait, but you usually end up paying for it with both time and money. I know more than a few people on here opted for E63 over the M5 because of the wait and the premium the M5 is going to command.

Car companies today are constantly evolving to keep up in this super competitive environment. Great time to be an enthusiast.

I think this is the very good point.

I do want to see if the E550 goes to 435ish hp then what the base hp on the E63 becomes(if anything). HP seems to be a big selling point to a lot of people even though there are many other differences between an E550 and E63 than just the engines.

maybe they wanted to make a clear distinction between the 550 and the e63. if both are v8 biturbo then it makes the e63 less special to a layman? im just guessing here lol

I am not so sure I'd say everything in the arsenal is going biturbo. This quote here says the whole idea of a non AMG V8 E-class is disappearing from the European market:

In Europe, the only V-8 that survives the 2013 facelift is the 537-hp 5.5-liter powerhouse reserved for the E63 AMG. The E500/E550 becomes an export-only model that sheds the ageing 408-hp 4.6-liter twin-turbo V-8 unit in favor of a turbocharged 4.6-liter motor good for 435 hp and 516 lb-ft of torque.

I thought BMW only does that in their diesels and BMW diesels are light years ahead of MBZ diesels in regards to performance.

1973 BMW 2002Tii, 2013 E63 wagon Cavansite P30+Premium
Hi Guys, new to the forum and just signed for a 2013 wagon. Was told production should be in June and I'll be lucky if I see it in aug/sept. If sales of the E class cars is good in canada, apparently they'll release my car, if not, they'll hold onto it until most of the 2012's are sold.

Yeah I like the current look better with the hard and sharp lines. It looks like a real mans car. If I upgrade I would want the current style or the new M5.

The V8 Turbo power increase is just marketing.. .the current 4.6tt is putting just as much power now...

For Example the CL 550 vs CLS550 rating.. just marketing and besides tuning will erase any gains from the new engine.

The real question here would be:

4.6TT or Single twinscroll (I assume), which is one better for tuning?

I follow the N54/55 discussion on occasions.. and the verdict so far its better to have 2 small turbos than 1 mid size turbo on a 335/135/535 ect.

Either way.. with the new engine and refresh it will make the 2012 E550 more affordable next year.. right in time for me to pick one up.

RE: W212 Refresh

If the Automobile pics are close, I'll take the plunge on a 2013. Have been wanting to get the new 5.5TT. No offense guys, but the W212 styling to date has kept me from getting one, I was leaning towards the CLS, but a cleaner styled E with pano would absolutely be my choice.

Curious what the switch to a single turbo for the E550 is all about, very unlike Mercedes to do a one year only engine, I'll ask my dealer next time I'm in for something.

The only turbo knowledge I have is when I owned a supra turbo and a single turbo was the way to go, but lag was so bad as you made 600 rwhp or more. HKS was the only one (I believe) that had a twin turbo kit that could push 800+ rwhp easily and closer to 1000 if you had a completely built engine/software.

So I guess 2 turbos from the manufacturer is better for daily driving and less lag. Seems like every auto maker is going this route.

For awhile I loved owning a turbo charged car. It was so easy to make crazy hp for less than 10k, but if you live in a city like mine where it gets super hot and then when you start modding it too much and you have to install a gazillion gauges to make sure you're not going to blow up the motor it gets old.

But it's hard not to like the 5.5 twin turbo amg engine especially with a tune. I'm sure new m5 owners will feel the same way. For less than 5k they will easily add 150 hp or more. Purists can argue all they want, but turbocharging is here to stay. If the e60 m5 didn't have the smg tranny, I'd probably buy one. That wail is unbelievable and I can live with just 500 hp. I know a lot of you here can never get enough hp so you'll love turbos.
