3-Spoke Alcantara Optional Wheel HELP!

OK guys, need everyone's help. I finally located and bought the steering wheel and airbag/electronics. Both are factory Mercedes parts. Now I am being told that the airbag/electronics I have do not work with the options on my car. One dealer even told me that this steering wheel was not offered as option on 2010 which I know is not true. I asked dealer if I could buy a VIN-specific airbag/electronics, he said no. Does anyone know a solution to this? Steering wheel fits fine, but the electronic harnesses, etc. do not match up to the airbag included. HELP!

Interesting.
That is the wheel I have on my 2010 w/ PP.
Send me the part numbers of what you bought and your VIN.
I will cross reference with what the EPC shows for my VIN and your VIN.

Thanks for your help.

The actual steering wheel part number is:
A212 460 32 03

The airbag/electronics module shows a M-B star and the year 2010. It has several numbers on it including:
These 2 are near a bar code at top center:
MB16200410095
307019699162-AD

Sticker at the bottom reads:
A2078604002

My VIN:
WDDHF7HB8AA132036

Per my VIN,

3 Spoke PP Steering Wheel is:
A 212 460 32 03 [9E38] (old number)
A 212 460 33 03 [9E38] (new number)

Air Bag is:
A 207 860 36 02 [9116]

Number in [9xxx] is the Color Code

I can't get your VIN to work.
I think it should start with WDD212 (if you have a W212).

It looks like you have the right wheel.

As for the Air Bag, yours appears different.
However,
A 207 860 40 02 is listed in the EPC as a 281/P30 Air Bag.

It's listed right under my Air Bag.
To see it I need to turn off my VIN Filter.
Meaning it is not the Air Bag for my VIN.
It is possible that they are different, but I can not tell you why.

If you can check your VIN and get back to me I can try to run your VIN again, to see what comes up for your car.
A valid VIN will start out as WDD212

Thank you so much for your help and research.

VIN is correct, there is no 212 in the sequence.

And like I said, the air bag/electronics module has numbers and bar codes all over it. Hard to say which is the correct part number(s).

Also, please excuse my ignorance, what is the EPC and PP?

Please get back to me with any other info. I need to get this thing to work on my car. Working with technicians with limited AMG knowledge.

A 207 860 40 02 is listed in the EPC as a 281/P30 Air Bag.

What exactly is 281/P30?

It appears the unit I have would work, but looks like a wiring harness or something is missing.

Do you still have these available? Could you please tell me the part number of the airbag, located toward the bottom, starting with an A?

Thanks

I'm baffled by your VIN.
Did you read it of the Windshield Tag?
What country are you in?

The EPC is the Electronic Parts Catalog.
https://epc.startekinfo.com/epc/
It's so worth the small subscription fee, for the ability to look parts up online.

PP is the Performance Package option, that provides the Alcantara Wheel and other items, depending on model year.

P30 is the code name for Performance Package.

281 is the code for AMG Performance Steering Wheel

It is perhaps possible you are missing a harness.
I saw this harness listed on the EPC
A 099 540 12 05

It's not valid for my VIN but might be needed for your car.
Since your Air Bag is a different Part number than mine it's worth a try.

Do you have any options, like Heated Wheel or Lane Keeping Assist, that would affect wiring to the steering wheel?

I hope you can figure something out on your VIN as that will tell me for sure what your car has.

Yes VIN is right from the windshield tag. I am in USA.

I have ordered the alternate airbag from dealer that you suggested. They said if it doesn't work I can return it.

Yes I have Lane Assist. Again, thank you for your help. If you have any other ideas, I am wide open. Mike

I got your VIN loaded in the EPC.
I had VIN confused with Identification #, my bad.
BTW your ID# is: WDD2120771A132036

It shows you have:
Steering Wheel: A 212 460 20 03 9E38
Air Bag: A 212 860 01 02 9116

You have the following codes:
238: Active Lane Keeping Assist
476: Automatic Lane Recognition

I found 1 Air Bag that is for 238+P30/476+P30
The part# is: A 212 860 38 02 9116

If the Air Bag you ordered does not work, you might want to try this one.

I also found 1 Steering Wheel that is for 238/476/277;
277: Sports Steering Wheel
Which is, 3-Spoke w/ Perf Leather (instead of P30 Alcantara)

The part# is: A 172 460 28 03 9E38

Hopefully you get an Air Bag to work with the wheel you bought.
MB is specifying different wheels and Air Bags for the 238 & 476 codes.
You might want to compare differences between your original wheel and the one you bought.
Perhaps there is additional wiring or hardware in it.

This is a great thread and almost answers specifically what I'm looking for. I am in the process of picking up a 2011 E63 and want to throw the steering wheel above into it (I haven't seen any with this steering wheel stock) and the shift knob from the 2012+. I'm wondering where I could find this steering wheel and what the cost would be?

Thanks!

Thanks for all your help. I FINALLY got a combination to work and now am enjoying the optional 3-Spoke, Alcantara-covered beauty. Turns out I had the right airbag but was missing a wiring harness. Bad news is I could not find a separate part number for the proper harness and had to buy another airbag from dealer. Now, I have an expensive extra airbag along with my factory 4-Spoke leather steering wheel and airbag for sale.

I'm really glad to hear you finally got that Wheel and Airbag Installed.
Would you mind saying what Airbag part# is the one that you had to buy?
Was it the exact same one you already had, or different?

Which P30 Air Bag are you selling?
The one that came with the P30 Wheel or the new one from the dealer?

thanks for updating that you got this to work, I am thinking about a 2010 or 2011 and really want the 3 spoke wheel as the 4 spoke looks like it come out of a taxi.

Glad to know at least now there is an option to buy a car and fit it afterwards

One last question, did you fit this yourself or did the dealer have to fit it and re-code the car for this wheel?

The correct air bag for the P30 is A207 860 40 02 9116. HOWEVER, this same airbag sent by the Ebay guy in Sweden was totally missing the correct wiring harness for my car. Not sure why....he has disappeared and has been unresponsive to my e-mail. Guess I will have to threaten with PayPal action.

So I have the following items for sale. The above mentioned airbag, factory 4-spoke leather E63 AMG steering wheel and airbag.

We tried to originally fit the wheel ourselves, but this is when we discovered the airbag shipped would not fit. We re-assembled and I was off to the dealer. They tried to fit the same airbag and wheel but couldn't and were clueless about what I needed. With the help of this forum, I was able to sort thru all the parts and order the correct part from the dealer (even with my club price was still TWICE the ebay price).

Hello, was the stock e63 4 spoke steering wheel still for sale? If so I might be interested if it is gray.

Thanks,

Darn, that might look too out of place. When you have a second could you post a picture of it?

Thanks,

I might have to go the three spoke route like you did!
