Peeling of Center Console/Cup Holder
1 Attachment(s)
Anyone else experiencing paint peeling in the cup holder / console area in their cars? (See pic) Anyone with a similar issue have it successfully resolved by MB? Do you guys think this is something that would be covered by the original warranty? I'm not abusive at all with my cars so its disappointing the lack of the quality here in the interior materials.

i had the same problem.. mb actually fixed it under warranty when i took it in for service a. I think it depends on your dealership and sa

I had the same exact problem. They claimed it's a common occurence and the replacement was covered under warranty.

It's the same crap that MB's been using on their steering wheel buttons since they were introduced back in 2000. Eventually they peel (especially in warmer climates) especially if your nail inadvertently scratches it. Generally if you're in warranty they can take care of you, but it does reoccur.

Thanks guys. Helpful as always!
|
There's no way around it since it's basically a rubbery polyurethane spray. It will eventually wear out if it gets rubbed enough times. Looks cool, but not very durable.
|
So the whole interior is gonna look like crap should one choose to keep it for a long, long time. I'm sticking with trading it in just right before the warranty runs out.

Guys, relax its a super simple repair.
Buy $23 part, remove old part install new part. I did mine in about 10 minutes. Buy the part, Item #13 here; https://www.genuinemercedesparts.com...gramCallOut=13 If you elect to buy from a dealer, it will cost about $35, but you will have it the next day. BTW - As you will see from the part number it's a C class part. You can blame the durability factor on that. As you know, we have a different center console than regular E class, because of the AMG switch panel. |
Nice post lunarx. Great info.
How is the panel attached to the console? Is it a snap on piece or do you unscrew it? Thanks for bailing out my lazy butt with this info! Cheers |
When you have the new piece in hand it will be clearer how to remove and install it.
I think there was a screw under the removable pocket (that thing thats the perfect size for storing business cards in). With that screw out the part pretty much snaps off. There may have been a forward sliding movement involved to disengage clips. I used a credit card to help pry the old part off. If you study the new part first, it will be nearly self explanatory. Good Luck & let us know how it works out for you. |
Speaking of that removable pocket...does anyone know what that is for?
|
Just got mine replaced at the dealer. Covered under warranty. If anyone else is having this problem just take it in. Easy as pie to get replace and didn't cost a nickel
|
mine got replaced under warranty as well.

I am looking for this part aswell. On the diagram (parts.com https://www.genuinemercedesparts.com...&group=CONSOLE) , #14, they call for "Armrest bezel w/o cup holder " and "Armrest bezel w/cup holder"... is this the difference between the N.Amercian and the European models? where the N.Amercian ones have the 2 cup holders and the european ones have the covered cubby?....
