2011 E63 Rear Suspension Losing Air, Dropping Down When Parked

Hi
Whilst this was not an option considered by OP, has anyone attempted to fit coilovers to W212 cars yet?
I know that in Europe both Brabus and Carlsson have done it but they are rather tight-lipped when it comes to discussing it unless, of course, you let them do this conversion on your car and pay the bill.

Just to update on my previous post, my car has been returned from the dealership with two new air bellows and there is now no rear sag - the mechanic confirmed that there had indeed been a fault.
If your E class estate W212 sags down over the rear wheels overnight, it is NOT normal. Get it fixed so the compressor does not fail, because if it does you will be unable to drive it to the dealer!

His 2nd dealer appears to be changing parts but has started with the air compressor and valve . That didn't stop the sagging so it was later reported that they're ''' FINALLY''' focusing on replacing the bellows....Stay tuned....
Bare in mind how long the OP has been without his car. I couldn't survive without my car for this length of time.....

Hello again,
I just picked up my car. It is all done and FIXED!!!
Helms Bros Mercedes Benz kicked a$$ and got it all done. No BS, no resistance just nice service with daily updates.
Oh yes, the rear air bellows were replaced and that was the culprit.

Looks like my car is sagging overnight. Roughly 1" on the RHS and 3/4-78" on the LHS.
My main concern is whats to keep this from happening again? I might wait till the oil change depending on if it gets worse over time.
12' Wagon with 6500 on the ODO.

Keep an eye on it and document its frequency... If these bellows are failing then Mercedes will have to look into it and rectify the problem. I just hope that you won't have to wrestle with your service dept like the OP did...

Can't wait for mine to fail. Since I'm lowered in the rear, I wonder if the dealer will try and deny warranty repair. At least I have a friendly relationship with my service rep.

Aside from the error messages that showed up a couple of time, my car's rear end has not dropped...keeping my fingers crossed here.

For what it's worth, I had a very pleasant interaction with MB service in Manhattan NY.
Apparently this issue has been escalated in some way on a national level.
From my service advisor:
"We just got approval from technical assistance (our engineering dept at HQ) to replace all of the components in your air suspension due to moisture that was found in the lines. There is a case document from Germany that tells us to replace everything if we find any moisture as it will contaminate the system."

I feel for you guys
This is such a bummer. I have been looking for a nice '11 or '12 E63 because I had not seen any significant systemic issues with them. Well, it looks like this is an issue that is going to impact a lot of cars.
I am hoping that the extended warranties are covering these problems. Otherwise these known defects are just going to be expensive going forward.
I am sorry that there have been problems with the dealers. We really have not had many issues with our C63, but Silver Star AG in Thousand Oaks has been great.

Does anyone have a copy of the MB bulletin? Also, how much of a drop when parked IS actually normal? I usually hear the air being let out once its parked and i've gotten out of the garage. Is that normal too?
I've attached a picture of my wheel altho it might be hard to see...

It was their first step to attempt the repair. I guess they didn't want to jump on the expensive air bellows at first. Perhaps it is their process of elimination? Who knows?
BTW, they called me today and said that the car is still sagging down so the air bellows are on order and are next! Gooooooood!!!!
Send me your email address and I will send you the bulletin and picture of the air bellow.

I think you should first determine if your axle is dropping and if you have an issue with the air suspension to begin with. Park your E63 for a couple of days and measure the height from the wheel opening to the ground. If it's losing air it will be dropping down. Sporadic air release wile you open the doors or after parking is normal.
I have the bulletin available.

I took that pdf bulletin with me last week and MB of St. Charles agreed to use it to check it out. Voila, the problem was found one day later and parts replaced the day after that. Now that's fast. Yes, also no BS and no resistance, also with nice daily updates. They told me some kind of "bag" so I think it's probably the air bellows. I'm dropping off the loaner E350 today to pick up my car. I couldn't have done it without your pdf especially with my car being asymptomatic except the twice malfunction warnings this past winter. Thanks again, Peter210.

Unfortunately, I hit 2-3 deers on the last leg of errands after picking up the car earlier in the afternoon. And I started a thread in the C63 side asking about MB Certified Collision Centers, where it will be at for at least a month.
So once again my car is out of service...

That sucks!!! Where is the damage and how extensive is it??? Finding a MB certified body shop should be relatively easy. Just contact your MB dealer and they will tell you who they are working with. This however will not guarantee proper repair. No matter which place you choose, you will need to go there first and check their work.
