Another E63 4Matic review (Car & Driver)

http://www.caranddriver.com/reviews/...t-drive-review

In it, they say the S-Model boosts PSI up to 14.5 from 13.0. Wasn't in the 2012/13 the normal boost 14.5 and PP 18.8 PSI? Are there any motor changes we don't know about?

" Here, the system defaults to a 33/67-percent front/rear torque split, although it can send a maximum of 70 percent to either end."

Different from what we've read before?

Not totally different.

9:40 Here:

Tobias Moers says up to 70% to the rear and about 30% to the front.

So did the C&D writer just screw it up? That chubby cheatta guy was one of the first to break the new e63 and seemed pretty into the car so I'm not so sure that's what's happened?

The other MB 4matics go 70/30 both ways so it would make sense to me. Kinda confused about this drivetrain now.

30/70 but mostly 33/67

I doubt you'll notice when power is shifted 3%

From what I have read / seen, the planetary gear set locks the ratio to 33/67.

I am actually thinking that the 4matic in the new AMG cars is less sophisticated than other AWD systems. It's probably better that way as it will be consistent and not interfere.

It's is a shame that they didn't put a locking front diff in as well.

C&D just screwed up. Saying the e63 could send 70% to the front contradicts everything everyone else including AMG has been saying. I wouldn't put too much thought into this.

For sure, amg's 4matic is clearly less sophisticated than other high performance AWD systems out there. The advantage is weight and reliability (we'd hope). I would love to see a selectable AWD (good for both hooning and fuel economy) but oh well.

That was my thought and assumption the second this rumor started.

It would be cool if they had a system like the Subaru STi where you could vary the lock for the center diff. But then again, let's get serious, the E class isn't exactly a rally machine. haha

A locking front diff would be an awesome addition as well.

I think I would be happy just to have AWD when it snows. That combined with winter tires makes the new E unstoppable.

They are clearly confused, since the new E63 WILL NOT have more then 33% to the front.
