Looking for info on 2014 E63 S from Washington

I'm new to this forum and appreciate the help. I'm looking for info on a 2014 E63 AMG S that I'm thinking of buying. It is Polar White with designo Saffron Beige Leather. The car was purchased 12/27/13 from Mercedes Benz Lynnwood and was involved in a minor fender bender that day. It appears the damage was minor. The owner traded the car back to MB Lynwood in August. This particular car seems like it has been modified and also has a built in radar detector.

Does anyone have info on this car? Appreciate the help.

Anyone with info?

I would of figured that someone would know this car. I do know it had a matte wrap over the Polar White. What about performance shops in the Bellevue area that would modify and do the radar detector? From driving the car it does not sound like a factory E63 S. I cannot hear that trademark AMG Exhaust note as I hear the turbos spooling over the exhaust. I'm wondering if it has an ECU tune and/or aftermarket downpipes. I'm headed to the dealer this morning and the car will be on the rack.

Thanks again.

It's a twin turbo V8. You will hear the turbos.

The M157 isn't going to bark like an M156.

Thanks. I have driven a M157 before and can hear the exhaust over the turbos. I'm quite familiar with how turbos sound and this particular car sounds turned up in comparison to other M157's I've driven.

We don't know what you know.

If memory serves me, early in past the model year, somebody wrecked their E63 driving off the lot. Maybe slammed a telephone pole or a curb?

I could be making that up, but I seem to recall some incredibly stupid story like that.

I'm remembering a picture of a white car. There was one shot. Of the front. Maybe offset to drivers side. Empty lot. Road behind it. No many buildings around.

Damage was either front or front drivers side.

It wasn't a total loss, nor was it simply a scraped bumper cover.

But again, it could be thinking of something else entirely.

I don't know much but I keep learning. I figured someone with a car like this would be a fellow enthusiast and be board member. My understanding is the previous owner travels a lot and goes through cars regularly. Just trying to arm myself with as much info to make a wise decision. Anyhow I appreciate the help and hopefully someone has more knowledge on this car.

Thanks Ace10!

It was drivers side bumper, fender and wheel and supposedly another car turned into him and was at fault. The wheel and tired were replaced. Suspension was out of spec and apparently still about 1.46 degrees out of spec. To be correct suspensions parts would need to be replaced but not specified. Could be a strut or knuckle but not sure.

Where in NoVa are you? I was just in Alexandria and DC last week for work.

That's gotta be the one.

I'd want a nice discount on a dirtied-up Carfax vehicle. Gotta have the geometry correct. And those drive shafts. Lots of mechanical stuff going on in the front of these cars now. (not to put too fine of a technical spin on it lol)

I'm about 50 miles west of the city. Horse and farm country.

Last time I was out your way was to catch The Dead at the Gorge. Jul3 2004. Great venue, great show. Almans opened for them. Played all night.

I have a college buddy who lives in Issaquah.

Sounds like a nice place to live. There are some really nice parts of VA and MD that I like. I visited Mt. Vernon last week and the last time was 8th grade and I'm 36 now. I should probably update my location but I live in Los Angeles.

I agree on the discount for this vehicle and the potential suspension and mechanical issues. What type of discount and price would be considered a good deal for a 2014 E63 S with 4300 miles and original MSRP of $113k approx?

I don't know the car but am familiar with most shops in the Bellevue area. If you need someone local to go look at the car I may be able to do it. I live about 35 min from that dealer.

Thank you and really appreciate the offer. The car is in California now and on my way to inspect it.

Op,

Walk away .... Why risk it? You'll take a hit later on resale unless u keep this car a long time. Ace10 is spot on

What kind of price are u getting if yur willing to share

I would start at $75k with that carfax, it's taken a $15k depreciation due to time and miles alone, and another $15k due to carfax ... Ace would have a better idea

+1

I wouldn't touch a 577 hp car with the suspension still out of spec. I wouldn't touch it at any price if that's the case. Or I'd want a ridiculous discount because the Carfax won't change.

Just to give you some perspective:

My first 2014 e550 Msrp of 77k, paid $71k and was ultimately bought back by Benz due to bad tranny

Prior to buyback it had 4000 miles and was rear ended and needed new bumper and $4k in repairs paid by other drivers insurance. Benz took the depreciation hit and valued the car at $55k on buyback and it had no frame or suspension damage and was cosmetically flawless. Your e63 is STILL not in spec?? Wtf! How can u even price that out without 1) knowing if it can be fixed and 2) for what cost?

If budget is a concern, look at a clean carfax 2012 or 2013 e63 with performance package and CPO. Or wait another year for a cheaper 2014 e63S or snag one of these 2014 used non-s e63 models on autotrader... You could probably get it for $75-80k

I totally agree - I would want a "virgin" car - something that has not been banged up. Wait until after Christmas and prices should be going down.

I'm from Seattle and I'm familiar with the car (not the accident though). I've seen it in person before it got wrapped. I'll give you some info.

The radar work was done by Benchmark Motoring in Bellevue, WA. This is a VERY high-end shop that charges high-end prices. The radar install is very clean and they even have the laser etched AMG emblem on the plastic trim. This kit cost the guy ~$5,200 installed from this shop. That's some serious bucks for a radar whose hardware costs $2,500.

The wrap, I believe, was done by Accutint in Seattle, WA (there's also a second location in Bellevue, WA). The reason I believe it was done by Accutint Seattle is because I remember seeing this car when it wasn't wrapped sitting in front of Accutint. At this point he already had the radar installed. Accutint does so-so work so if you are going to buy this car check all of the areas that the film would've been cut because they're known to scratch the paint in places.

Yes this car has a custom exhaust. I don't have any additional details aside from that.

Best of luck!

I do appreciate all the comments and responses. Me and my friend examined the car, had it on a lift and road tested it. While I'm a perfectionist and very particular about my cars I wouldn't let an accident deter me unless I found unsatisfactory evidence. Overall the car looked great, paint looked good and all painted metal panels were within range on the paint meter. We checked under the hood and didn't notice anything unusual and all the body panels appeared to fit properly.

Now we did notice slightly more wear on the front driver side inner tire versus the front passenger side. It didn't look terrible but it was noticeable enough. This would be indicative of more camber and coincide with being told it was off about 1.46 degrees. Structurally the suspensions pieces looked fine and no signs of physical damage. Quite frankly the strut may need to be replaced and this could remedy the issue. Overall the car seemed to drive well and didn't notice any funny vibrations in the steering or any major pull to the right or left.

Since I have a personal connection to the dealer they have said they will make the necessary repairs to make the car correct. It is also under warranty and chances are I will drive the car for 50-60k and trade it in. While I'm not thrilled it appears it was in a minor wreck I don't think it's a deal breaker yet. The dealer will put it on their alignment rack and I can also take it my shop for review.

Bottom line I will know more on Tuesday. I'm not committed to buying the car but I do like it a lot. The car has some equipment and extras so we shall see the outcome soon.

If anyone else knows more about the car please let me know.

Thank you

I spoke with Benchmark Motoring today. I was able to find out more info from them and you are correct, the radar jammer and detector was very expensive. It does have aftermarket exhaust as well. The original owner has good taste and a passion for AMG's.

Thank you
