Distronic Grille
I've got a black W212 2012 E63 with black rims with full CF package. I want to black out the remaining chrome that I have: front grille, hood star and back badges.
I thought of painting the front grille with a glossy paint but discovered that the distronic sensor sits directly behind the grille and there is a protective box within the grille. The guy who was going to do the paint job said if he painted over the box then the distronic sensor would malfunction.
First off, is that even true? Secondly, what's my alternative if I can't paint over the box.
I am attaching an image of the grille (not mine) for illustrative purposes. Pics of the car will come later

The box sits behind the plastic grille. The body shop may be correct. Try a test by painting a piece of thin plastic the size of the distronic box and tape it over the box, go drive with the taped on piece and the grille on and find out.

just in case I went ahead and painted the grille black and it didn't work. Thinking too much of a risk.
