what you posted was way over complicated.

the response from post #3 below is 100% correct and all you need. that crazy long series of paragraphs from the manual is about the most confusing thing ive ever seen.

1-drive in ESP sport/manual mode
2-left foot brake to a stop (takes some practice...)
3-turn dial to RS (one notch since already in manual)
4-confirm with up paddle
5-floor it
6-release brake

YES!!

all this said Mercedes race start is garbage.

why dont BMW and Mercedes just do it like Porsche;

1. floor brake
2. floor gas
3. release brake

(regardless of mode, esp setting, manual/auto, or whatever)

YES!!

Even with all your conviction, you're still completely incomplete.

Sometimes, there are very good reasons why a process is documented to the nth degree, and engaging Race Start happens to be one of those processes.

This has become one of the more humorous threads in this section in a while.

no, its complete. he asked how to engage race start, not how NOT to engage race start. and post #3 was everything thats required.

this thread most certainly shows how activating RS is complicated compared to competitors.

The owner's manual "cut and paste" above does not mention the fact that the car needs to be in ESP sport mode... therefore incomplete also.

At the strip I did the Race Start easyly everytime, but last night coming back from the restaurant I tried it twice to show a friend and it did not engage, so maybe the engine needs to be at correct operating temp to engage ?

Oil temp needs to be at least 80 degrees Celsius for RC to work.

Yes, I just tested again and when the oil temp is not warm enough (shown in blue) it does not engage.

I'd like to say I'm surprised at these responses to the owner's manual entry, but I'm not. The ask from OP was how to engage Race Start, not the Pre-Reqs. If you guys even cared to look at page 203, the section before what I pasted is titled "Conditions for Activation". There it lists what is needed, including operating temp, sport handling mode, etc.

Before you go complaining that something is inaccurate, please at least go RTFM.
