My only dislike with this car is the stereo - anything that can be done at a reasonable price?
What settings do you use? Right now I'm at 0 treble and -4 bass and Logic7 On and that seems to be the best I've found so far .

Same question here. On my F10 BMW, I upgraded their HK system with some plug and play speakers from Bavsound and it sounded much better. Anyone know of similar upgrades for MB?

@ucla95 same problem here man. Love the car but hate the stereo!

My settings at -3 trebel and -2 for bass. The settings change from song to song and they get lower (more -ve!)

I just despise my HK. I am still contemplating a real stereo upgrade. The Burmester in my 991 Turbo S is so much better. I miss my BMW 550xi's HK which was world better than my E63s (the only thing I miss about the 550).

Any ideas on what to do about this? Don't really want to lose trunk space for an amp, it would really be great if there are a company like Bavsound for MB.

What is it that you guys don't like? The only thing I don't like on mine is there is no bass. I plan to add a powered sub and it should be much better.

Lack of bass is only one of the issues. The sound is very unclear and muddy with poor separation and clarity IMHO.

Don't really care for bass, so that is not an issue for me. It is the lack of clarity that I miss from my old system.

IMHO Mercedes is a failure in regards to sound systems. The whole system is removed and replaced with Focal Elite K2 components(Amp, Sub, Speakers). Expensive, but worth every single $$$.

i test drove one a couple weeks ago and even in that short period of time was struck at how much the HK sucked. i was in a new bmw x5m recently with optioned b+o system...so much cleaner

The strange thing is the standard HK system in my wife's GL550 has none of these problems. The clarity is tremendous and bass is adequate. The HK system in the E63 is muddy and clearly lacks separation.

So has anyone found a workable solution to replace HK yet?
I was thinking along the lines of keeping the head unit and replacing speakers and amplifier, plus installing a digital processor, but i think there is some sort of fiber bus link between head unit and the amp. Plus the amp also controls the voice functions of command.
Has anyone here figured out components that work with the head unit? I talked to a local shop and I seem to be more knowledgeable than they are on how command works with the amplifier thanks to this forum...

So we can't even replace the amp? Would just switching out speakers do enough? I'm guessing (not being a stereo guy) that we need a better amp.

Or simply keep the same amp and find some more efficient speakers with a higher dB sensitivity rating.

I wonder if the sound system sounds better in the wagons because my 2012 wagon is not bad and I do like a good sound system, I find it acceptable. It is much better than my last car, a 2013 Cadillac CTS-V. I would say my 2013 VW Jetta Wagon sound system does sound a little better though than the Benz, I'm very happy with that sound system. I can't really see spending the time and money upgrading the speakers in the Benz like I have done in so many cars.

I think you might actually have more bass in the wagon. IMHO the system is fine, just lacks any bass. I've ripped a number of cars apart to install stereo systems back in the day but factory systems have come a long way and as people mentioned are so integrated now that its hard to start upgrading them without losing features along the way.

Wow, I am having none of those issues. I have mine sent to Logic 7 on, Treble +4 and bass +7. I listen to mostly rock and metal, sounds crisp and clean. Only gripe I have is with the crappy antenna, local radio reception and local HD radio is crappy.

The problem with that is you will likely end up stressing the speakers trying to push all that bass into them. Better to spend the 200 bucks and install a sub in the trunk so you don't have to overstress the speakers.

I disagree completely. Burmester 3D in the S Class annihilates most other factory audio systems.

Mine are set to Logic 7 ON, Treble +4, Bass +10, Fader -3 (more on the rear)
