Muffler Question for 14 E63

hey guys,

do we have a thing in our mufflers that could be unplugged to make the valves in the car stay open?? i was talking to a few M3 guys yesterday that have it on the new F80 bimmers. My brother did it on his 08 335 as well. Have any E63 guys done this?

Let me know,

Nick

Somone correct me if I am wrong here, but i don't think our cars come with the exhaust valves.

If they do, I need to go jack it up and look, its an easy fix you just remove one of the wires on open.

That worked for all my previous cars.

Yup as far as I'm aware our cars do not come with butterfly valves to alter the exhaust volume.

Downpipes your best bet, rado, weistec etc

hey guys, so two different shops i talked about doing the resonator delete questioned me about it. They said it wouldnt be good for the turbos as they run off the back pressure?? has anyone that has done a res delete had any problems??

No problems here. That resonator is so small I doubt it'd make any diff.

Did you try taking it to a dedicated muffler/exhaust shop? That's where I took mine. All they do is fix exhaust systems, catalytic converters, do custom exhaust setups as well as fix OEM. Dingy looking small shop but been there about 25 years and got great google reviews. The assistant cut off the resonator and the boss man welded in straight pipes. Said he does that mod all the time for all kinds of vehicles. 30 minutes and I was on my way. I've had it about 5 months now and no problems thus far. Nice sound increase with aggressive throttle but not intrusive at all during cruising or idle.

Turbos run better with less back pressure. A resonator doesn't affect flow, just sound. The guys you are talking to don't know what they are talking about.

They just don't want the liability of working on a $100K+ benz

Our cars 100% don't have the valves like some other MB models.

Your best bet to increasing sound would be to do any single or combonation of the following: resonator delete, Renntech sport mufflers, downpipes. Or if you do want valve controlled exhaust buy Brabus' system for $7,500 which also requirs their rear diffuser for another $5,500.

I wanted to make mine louder, the stock exhaust is painfully quiet especially after spending two years in a C63 with catless headers lol so I replaced the stock cat back with custom tailpipes, no resonator or mufflers. Local shop did it for me in about an hour and a half, best $350 I've spent on the car. It's not for everyone but I love it - aggressive, loud, pops, crackles, and nice turbo whine

Here's a short clip of it

Meisterschaft makes valved mufflers for much less than that. I have them on my E63S and they work great -- nice and aggressive with the valves open, and nice and quite with them closed (for cruising or not annoying the neighbours early in the morning etc.).

Good call I forgot about those. Those are $3500 before shipping.

I wonder if the sedan and wagon have the same fitment (as their website only mentions sedan).

How's the noise level closed compared to stock? Any chance you've got some videos on the M157 engine? I've only found the M156 sound clips.

Sorry, I was going to get some video when I installed them last summer, but my camera broke and I never got around to it. To me it seems that with the valves closed it is slightly louder than stock (maybe 5%). However, with the valves open it sings, especially when under load. I think it sounds wonderful, however, I've only heard it from within the cabin. That being said, a number of colleagues have complimented me on the sound when I arrive / depart from the office. I really should capture some video as I too have only found video of the meisterschaft on the m156.
