OK, I drove it again this morning trying to detect any shifting harshness or quirks. I cannot get it to do anything but shift smoothly and normally in S or S+. The exhaust note during downshifts is different by design (very cool) in S and S+.

Just got back from trying my best to trip up the transmission. I simply could not do it. In fact, I would say that it is absolutely perfect. Damn I love this car!

Right. Dealer says E63 exhaust crackle/pops the same way. Much much different than my 14. Hence why I keep asking for someone w a 16 to chime in on this specific topic of difference in exhaust crackle, not shifting.

I've got a week until delivery of mine but i'll update once i have it. You could also go to the dealer and see if they have a 2016 to just startup and test.

Just dropped my '15 S off at the dealership for service and asked them to check on the ECU update and fuel over-run that creates the cracking/popping. I'll let you guys know this afternoon if anything has changed.

Does anyone know any specific information or code # for the update that does this? My tech says that can't update anything unless they are seeing codes, and no codes being thrown on my vehicle...

I told them it felt "clunky" before i ever got there and that was the reason for my visit. They said they didn't find anything... I'm not too worried about it; downpipes go in Tuesday .

Lots of mixed infos here.
first, depending on where you are, and where the car was originally sold, lots of options will differ.
for ex. auto folding mirror wasnt introduced in US until MY 2015.
Fyi, this is for US spec.
2015 - added auto folding mirror, amg logo on front grill, and window trims are now also black, when night package is added.
2016 - added newer version of comand NTG 5s1 sw. , additional/changed exterior color choice, option to add 3rd zone temp setting for the rear bench, along with option to add 2-stage rear heated bench. Lastly option of 5 spoke 19" wheel with lug bolt cover integrated center caps.
I ended up picking up a 2016 recently and coming from NTG 4.5/7 in my previous 2012 E coupe, 5s1 looks so much up to date.
see below yt link. This is retrofit video, but it shows how 5s1 looks in MY 2016.

I retrofitted folding mirrors in my cls63 and it was a fun experience. The hardest part is finding some used folding mirrors that also have blind spot etc to match the options your car already has. You can buy mirrors with just power folding and then merge the wiring harness with your mirror but that is more work, otherwise the door modules are universal and the car just needs to be coded and told that power mirrors are installed, you also code the menu option to enable them in the cluster.

I used star diagnostics and a developer software called vediamo to enable the option in the car, its not exactly user friendly and requires some learning. Everything else is plug and play if you have the correct oem parts.
