2017's sounds like a significant upgrade
It finally hit me today to just wait for a 2017 rather than jump the gun on a 2015/2016. It's not really gonna be that much less I'm gonna get for my 2012 by waiting out a little bit and it sounds like the chassis on the 2017's is going to be much stiffer with a new type of architecture that will also save at least 300 lbs weight. A similar thing happened with the 2015 VW Golf Wagon I now have and the car handles and has much better road feel than my old 2013 Golf, on the VW it's called the MQB architecture, can't remember the name on the Benz, but it's a similar concept, I think it's MRA chassis.
I've heard the electronics will be a upgrade also, I'm really ready for something vastly different and this car might be it. It is going to take some cue's from the S model I understand and maybe have a dual screen, this way gauges can be displayed differently kinda like in the new C7 Vettes.
Then car should be faster with more turbo boost and lets hope we may be seeing mid 11 quarter mile times. I just hope the wagon is not delayed much and comes out around the same time as the sedan. Lets hope it's available by mid summer next year or sooner. To heck with it, I'll keep driving my 2012 until then, it's a great car. If I got a new one now and then really wanted another new when the 2017's come out I'd probably take another 30 thousand dollar bath, so best to just wait patiently. Here's a link from the rumor mill sitehttp://www.digitaltrends.com/cars/2017-mercedes-benz-e-class-news-specs-rumors/ I guess we will have to wait for the Detroit Auto Show Jan 11-24 to find out more info.

I really doubt it, all the rumor sites I read states there will still be a Wagon variant of the E series. A lot even say it's still going to use the 5.5 engine and not the 4.0. I hope it does continue on with the 5.5 but with higher boost levels to put it over 600 hp. I'm really not one for doing tunes but it would be nice if the factory did a tune for me Anybody know when generally the cutoff date would be for the 2016 models, because if the news is definite there is not going to be a wagon I would get in a order for a 2016. I would hope you can still order a 2016 after the Detroit auto show which is January. Here's a link to the 2017 Wagon, it really sounds like it will be available but not until late 2016 whereas the the sedan will be available more early in 2016. http://www.mbca.org/news/2015-09-23/...agon-spy-shots

Judging from new emerging spy shots online the exterior remains to be unchanged that much just new head and tail lights maybe a few redesigns on the bumpers nothing drastic. I do not like the fact that the tail lights will be a cross of the C class and S class tail lights.
Going from the interior it will most likely be a boosted up version of the C class interior as Mercedes has always and will always keep the S class interior for that specific model and not blend it with lower models we can damper the prestige of the S class.
I'm betting the new nav screen will be that from the 2015/16 CLS, which is a similar updated interior to the 15/16 C Class. Also from spy shots seen online just by eye balling the interior has the new nav screen which is detached from the center console just like the 15/16 CLS and 15/16 C class, I'd expect that same interior, not the S class interior.
Engine I have no idea.

2018 S560 and 2019 E450 Wagon.
But I feel the biggest improvement will be the MRA Chassis that will be much more stiff similar to what VW did with the Golf. I can tell you first hand going from a 2013 VW Wagon to the 2015 Golf Wagon the MQB Chassis of the VW makes a huge difference the car just drives so much better and feels so much more tight. It handles the corners much better too. We will see the same with the Mercedes. Somebody suggested I wait a while back, they were right.

Guess we'll have to wait and see about the chassis as the MRA chassis which from what I've read stands for "Mercedes Rear-wheel-drive Architecture (MRA)" refers to rear wheel drive models?...Not sure how it all works though as I'm far from an expert... Lots of different sources of information are saying different things but it seems that it is a rear wheel drive based chassis and the 220 pounds it was supposed to save on the C class model (which the MRA chassis was first introduced on) ended up not saving much weight at all, just from what I've read online.

I know that's what I find strange, all the sites I find about the 2017's are talking the MRA and it makes you wonder if the wagons and sedans could be back to RWD, that would be depressing if they did something like a step back for cost savings kinda like what they are doing by going to a inline 6 in the base models as there is cost savings in MFG to them by 35 percent less over the current V6 engines.

Saw an article the other day with an interview from the AMG boss saying E63 will be AWD for all markets, but it will do all the fun stuff AMG's are supposed to do. If I can find the link I'll post it.

Definitely post it, that's good for a second I was thinking what if they go back to just RWD, I can't imagine that though taking a step back like that, especially if they have more power which I'm sure '17's will. Very competitive market out there these days.

Waiting for 2017 E63 S 4MATIC
1. MRA = Modular Rear Architecture; it can also be used in models with AWD (based on RWD, not FWD)
2. MRA saved around 70kg in the C class.
3. W213 E63 will get the 4.0 V8. Power is not an issue. BMW's 4.4 V8 has 600hp (M6 CP); Audi's 4.0 V8 has 605hp @ 6100-6800 (S8+).

AMG boss Tobias Moers has promised that the next Mercedes-AMG E63 super-saloon will be “not an evolution but a pure revolution - the biggest step an AMG E-class has made”.
Speaking to Autocar at the Frankfurt motor show, Moers revealed that the performance E-class will be four-wheel-drive-only in all markets, but added, “Don’t worry - it will still do skids, drifts and all the stupid stuff we love.”

Good deal I like high revving motors a little better. How do the internals of the current 4.0 compare to the 5.5? Is the motor as tough as the 5.5? Seems like the 5.5 does not have many issues and is holding up well even when pushed to the max with larger turbos and radical tunes. I would hope the 4.0 would be the same way.

Time will tell if they utilize the 4.0L or the 5.5L, as Brabus released their tuned version of the 4.0 C63S and AMG GT both which had ecu tuning and a exhaust done by brabus which puts out 591 hp...

Could be, I dislike the way the new 4.0 sounds in the C63 when I was ordering my e63s I did look at a c63S they had I was lucky enough to be there to pick up my car the same time the owner of the C63S was there so he revved it up and launched it when leaving, not a fan. Just my opinion though.

With all that additional technology, beware the first year model. I'm sure the new model will be more rigid and all that, but that matryoshka approach to designing is hard to swallow.

I wonder if on the AMG Gt's its just the mufflers that sound funky? Maybe Borla mufflers or something like that might sound good?
Not really too worried about the first year. I trust Mercedes Engineering. A lot of the technology is coming from the C and S class which is tried and true stuff. They are not going to offer that Cell Phone remote parking feature here in the USA only in Europe, bummer that would be cool the look on peoples faces of a driverless car parking itself, lol.

I watched the CEO of Dodge talk about letting his engineers "go wild" in the development of the Hellcat on Jay Leno's garage. Seems others manufacturers are also adding more power to their high performance models. I have no doubt that if Mercedes follows suit and let's AMG engineers do what they need to do to keep up with competitors power gains the next engine will have plenty of horsepower even if it's a 4.0 liter. My concern isn't power from the engine but the spy shots of the car.... the trunk looks cutoff and I'm worried about the design on the next E class not looking as good as the current model.

Next E class from spy shots seems to be an adaptation to the current 2014-current models front lights will resemble the current C class lights and rear will be a mix of the C and S class current tail lights. Power well the m157 is putting down plenty as there are stock dyno sheets showing them putting anywhere between 512 to 541 hp at the wheels on a 4 wheel drive dyno (loose translation 20% loss for awd/4wd cars is anywhere between 640bhp to 676bhp) these figures were for a CLS63S (performance pack). Seems to be very under rated from the factory.

Yes, and I would wait 2-3 years for MB to work out all the miscues on the new "launch" before jumping on the w213.
