New to MB and AMG - First car Renntech e63. Thoughts?
I have been looking for a 2012-2013 E63 and found one I love but wanted to get some feedback from actual owners on it.
2012 e63 p30 with 50k miles (no warranty)
Guy says it has no problems
But he has a lot of upgrades on it:
Renntech ECU tune - 669 hp
Weistec TCM and valve body control for proper shifting
Weistec spark plugs
BMC air filters
How reliable of a car would this be? I don't plan on beating on it. Daily drive it with every 6 months go to the drag strip on street tires.
Anything to worry about?
Thanks guys!

Best advice I can give you is demand that the owner supply you with ALL the service records for the vehicle. You need to verify this car has been well maintained, especially in light of the upgrades. If the owner can't supply those records, then walk away.
I'm not suggesting that the mods may pose problems. My concern would be that the current owner bought the car, modified it, ran it hard and possibly skimped on the normal maintenance and repair associated with the vehicle. All with the idea that the next owner, that being potentially YOU, would be left holding the bag for all the neglected maintenance and repair costs.
It sounds like you're looking at a high performance vehicle that has NO warranty left on it and you have no idea how well it was maintained or if it was abused in any way. So YOU would be on the hook should you discover costly required repairs shortly after buying the vehicle. Go into this with your eyes wide open and make sure you get the vehicle thoroughly checked out, by someone knowledgeable on these type of MB vehicles, BEFORE you buy it. This is the same advice I would suggest to anyone looking at a luxury or high performance used vehicle, not just MB.

I asked him about this and here is the timeline he gave me:
He purchased the car in October of 2015
November 2015 Spent close to 20k in Renntech/Weistec upgrades
December he went to the dealer for a rattle in the sunroof and they scanned the computer and found the Renntech tune and voided the rest of his warranty.
January 2016 car is for sale because he has another kid on the way.
Here is a link to his ad, http://fresno.craigslist.org/cto/5383581014.html
From all the pictures he sent me, the car does not look 'beat' on but I completely understand what you are saying.
Thanks all for the information/help/tips

First of all, I would never buy a Mercedes out of warranty, let alone a tune AMG. I also have the 2012 E63, but I have my extended warranty when I bought it CPO.
It might be a reason why the seller is selling his E63, because it is out of warranty.
I never had any issues with my E63 and even though my is tuned, I can still sleep better knowing it is under warranty.
If your content of buying the mentioned E63, I would get the seller/dealer to provide complete service record to see if all services are up to par and if any major repairs that raises a red flag. Then I would check the carfax to see if there are any damages report and see how many owners it has had.
Good luck.

Very suspicious story.... most dealers do not randomly scan your ecu for flashes
#7
I scrolled through the texts and had it a little off.....
Here is what he said...
I took it to dealer to have full maintenance done
Oil change , tranny flush, brake fluid exchange ,
And they hooked up scanner to see if it has any codes in the system and that's when they told me my warranty is voided
Before it was voided I just had them do a sunroof service because it was rattling
This is the car in question.. (pre renntech upgrades)

His story seems unlikely. My dealer knows I tune and modify all my cars and have been for years. In fact, I've serviced my cars at three different dealers through the years all of whom were aware of my mods, never once have they threatened to void my warranty. Now that being said, if my car had catastrophic engine failed due to the Mods, yes they would void it faster than I can go 0-60 but I'm skeptical of a story where the warrant work was in regards to a sunroof and they just flat out voided it, regardless if they noticed the tune or not. I would stay clear of this seller.

The owner's story doesn't sound quite right to me. Instead of trying to find a third party warranty, after spending $20k in mods the month before, he immediately puts the vehicle up for sale as soon as MB voided their warranty on the vehicle. If you can't get the complete service history on this vehicle, along with a Car Fax to prove it's clean, then I would walk away. Of course at the end of the day, it's up to you. Let us know what you decide.

Don't know if it matters now with all that has been said, but it does NOT have the P30 ( PP ) package as advertised. Take a look at the steering wheel and calipers which is not red.

Sounds like I should stay away from this one
One last random question....
If I take the car to a different dealership would they honor the warranty or is it in the system as a voided warranty no matter what?
Thanks guys. Guess the search continues.

still seems sketchy to me. the seller can't even spell well.
If what the seller said is true (that one dealer voided his warranty), then unfortunately, it's in the "system" and all MB dealers will see it. To check this, just ask him for the VIN and ask a friendly MB service adviser to look it up for you.
In any case, the factory warranty is probably expired or close to expired anyways. Ask him when the in-service date was.

Why would someone buy a E63 in Oct., spend close to $20,000 upgrading it in Nov. and want to sell it 2 months later. Something fishy about this.

For all the nay Sayers that affirm the dealer can't void your warranty for mods, apparently they can; so much for mag-moss!!

I'd pass on the car. Dealer can only legally void warranty on the modified parts (engine, transmission) not the whole thing so if your command breaks you should have coverage, but if you blow the engine it's on you.
I'd still pass on this car.

20к don't sound right to me , but if I was you I would check the history , carfax , autocheck , dealer , and do all 3 if you do . the mods are minor , hard to destroy AMG in few month with just a tune .
#20
That would mean if you have aftermarket wheels dealer should be able to void your warranty based especially if you have a Airmatic problem!
I do not buy that at all.
Here is a possible reason. Car is a 2012, what if it was bought Dec 2011? Warranty will be over by Nov 2015 and not exactly "voided". Car is not CPO remember?

in addition to this whole thing being VERY sketchy, he wants 2 much for the non CPO car with 47K miles and VOIDED manufacturer warranty.
Personally I would stay as far away as possible...

Outside of the owner asking way too much for the car, I do not see any issues with the car??? The word "voided" has you guys dizzy and frothing at the lips over absolutely nothing.
Its a car outside manufacturer's warranty. English might not be this guy's first language based on the wording from the original Craigslist post.
I see you guys preaching RennTech over Eurocharged etc etc because they are so good with MB, now it's like you all forgot the crap you were spewing about that. If RennTech is so good, why are all of you so scared of a RennTech tuned car? How many engines have they blown up?
car wouldn't have a warranty even if the car was BONE STOCK. OP do your due diligence and have the car checked out thoroughly and negotiate. This car should not be going for more than ~45k IMO

I am looking for an E63, so I decided to post on a MB board asking for advice, how is that a scam?
Sorry for asking questions before I spend $50,000 on a car......
