A big one is the better cooling system in the 2013+

Preface lift vs. facelift. It'll depend what you want your AMG do. DD with some punch and have factory warranty, I would go for a 2013 E63. I have a 2012 and have not had a problem with it even with a upgrade.

Best of luck.

Probably would matter more on the track

oh, so split cooling? So even though 2013 is pre facelift, it still has this split cooling?

From what I understand, the split cooled versions also had an upgraded pump

If I add the spilt cooling trunk tank, will that pretty much be like a 2013 if I was to get a 2012?

Sounds like we are both in the market for a 2012/2013. I just started looking into these myself.

Id love to know the answer to the cooling question. I cant find the definitive answer on the difference. Heard 2013 had a larger overflow tank???

I also heard the 2012 had some jerky trans issues that is apparently just dealer reflash.

Side note, are you Serbian? I see the flag in the avatar.

The cooling difference is a divorced system vs all in one.

in the 2012 MY the IC coolant is the same as the engine coolant.
in the 2013 MY the IC coolant is separate from the engine coolant.

I bought a 2012 CPO in January of 2016, have been smiling like a kid ever since. You won't regret the decision

Yea bought a 2012 w/ 30k and I drive it hard...never had any issues with cooling or heat soak.airmatic has issues after 40k but that will be the same on a 2013 anyway. You can save anywhere between 5-8k by buying a 2012 over a 2013 for virtually the same exact car and spend the difference on an extended warranty from mb

One was made in 2012 and the other 2013.

Not much, but the price, look for a nice low mileage 2012 if you plan on keeping her for awhile. You'll save big on the price, taxes and such. IMHO.

I think im goig to start my search for a 2013 and heres my thought process:

I have a really nice 05 E55 now, low mileage, no accident, clean car. Turned over 70K the other day. I feel like modding will only drive the price down and being that it is over 10 years old, an upgrade would be nice despite that everything in this car is literally like new. Sure, im a bit ocd...especially with mechanical maintenance, but i have never had a break-down, check-engine light or similar. Anyway, if i keep it and keep driving it, the price will go down with the miles so its time to pass it along while it can still fetch a good chunk of change.

With that said, i do have my sights set on the 5.5TT. Unfortunately, i also have a budget to be mindful of. I do LOVE the facelift 2014 and newer, but being its the newest model i will pay for it dearly.

Im thinking buy the 2013 as its the not the latest model, so the prices already dropped a good amount. Im hoping to score one in the 40s. Then after a few years, let her go and hop into the facelifted 2014/15 which by then will come down in price AND also gives me something to look forward to in a year or two.

Lastly, the 2012 vs 2013 was a simple decision. I have a strict rule about not buying the 1st release of anything automotive so voila, 2013 it is.

I have a 3,000 mile road trip coming up this summer that i planned as sort of the last hoorah with the E55, so once i get back, i think that im going to post her up and start my search for the W212.

ehh....... 2012 is not really the first year, 2010 is the first year technically and the 157 isnt really all that new either, usually ill agree with the 1st year being problems but 2012 is actually a refresh from the 2010

2012 is not the first year....the m157 has been around since 2010 in the 2011 s63 and cl63.

My 2010 is a great car, MB knows not to have most first year bugs like say a GM car. Then use it as an excuse. The wood trim is the most wide spread problem, everyone had. Head bolts is the next, but not all cars had them.

FF. W212 E63 M156 non-pano 18" P2 ParkT NightV (gone but will be missed).
And now the Takata recall is likely to have the dashboard rip apart and lead to squeak and rattle afterward.

Was the M157 in the S63 the same one as in the 2012+ E63? Same output?

Also, what year did the S63 get it? And was it only the S63?

Yes same 5.5 TT motor in the S63. The S63 got that motor starting 2012 and like the E63's was just rwd until model year 2014. The S63 is a little slower because it is carrying extra weight.
